1977, you were a hard year for me to figure out my top 10 best films. Some were quick and easy but I really had to did down deep to find some of the best films. With that said, you did bring Star Wars to the world with Darth Vader and the crew. You also had people say they were mad as hell and not going to take it anymore.

Star Wars

Via: 20th Century Fox

If this is not on the list then I can’t call myself a movie fan. George Lucas’ film changed the movie industry game. Hell, the film created a whole new standard with fans. You have the iconic “Let the Force be with you” come from this. Who can forget the characters from Darth Vader, Luke, Han, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, R2D2 and C-3PO. What about the lightsabers? An ICONIC film and then some.

Network

“I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!” In a time where people call fake news and networks go for major rating with reality tv or any type of show they make, you wonder what goes on in the inside of those networks. I want to tell you that this film is one of the best movies on network tv and how people do things inside. The story is all made up but damn is it so good. From the acting performances to the story to some of the messages that are delivered in this film, it is truly OUTSTANDING.

Annie Hall

Annie Hall is one of those movies I heard so much about and it didn’t interest me at all. For one, I’m not a big Woody Allen fan. Also, I am not a big romantic-comedy type person. So, those two things would put me off. Well, I decided to give this movie a chance and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the whole movie and thought it was really funny. It hit on relationships and love in a really nice way and highly recommend that anyone should watch it. The cocaine scene was hilarious!! Allen has a way of making fun but stating the obvious in relationships.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Via: Columbia Pictures

You know I think Steben Spielberg is a movie genius. This film was written and directed by him and is the story of Roy Neary, whose life changes when he encounters a UFO. This movie is phenomenal and really brings to life the imagination of Spielberg. When the spacecraft comes down, pure awe and mind was blown. Spielberg knows what he is doing and I want to spend 30 minutes picking his brain.

Saturday Night Fever

Via: Paramount Pictures

You know I had to put this film of the list for the simple reason of the Bee Gees hit song, “Stayin’ Alive.” Gotta love the song at the beginning of the film. This film is one of John Travolta’s best and most iconic work. The film revolves around Travolta’s character who wants to be a dancing star but also has to deal with life. Life comes at the young man quick in this gritty and sometimes hard to watch film.

Smokey and the Bandit

Via: Universal Pictures

You couldn’t have a list of the best films in 1977 without Smokey and the Bandit. A film that stars Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, and Jackie Gleason to name a few. In the film, Bo “Bandit” Darville (Reynolds) and his homeboy, Cledus “Snowman” Snow (Reed) illegally transport 400 cases of Coors beer to the ATL. It’s funny to watch because first its Coors, and secondly that beer is not worth the jail time. Hey, that is why I love the South. This film is funny with how they invade the police.

The Spy Who Loved Me

Via: United Artists

I love James Bond movies. I’m not the biggest Roger Moore fan when he played the famous British spy, but he did have a nice run as the spy. In the tenth film in the James Bond series, Bond goes up against Karl Stromberg, a man wants to destroy the world and call upon his inner Sebastian and live under the sea. This was one of the better Bond films starring Moore. The opening scene was great but it does tail off as the movie goes on.

The Rescuers

Via: Walt Disney

One of Disney’s underrated animated films is The Rescuers. A film that stars Bob Newhart and the legendary Eva Gabor as Bernard and Bianca, two mice who are like the original Rescue Rangers. They are part of the RAS, the Rescue Aid Society which is an international mouse organization with the sole mission of helping abduction victims around the world. The whole film revolves around Bernard and Bianca rescuing a six-year-old girl named Penny from two treasure hunters after a large diamond. The film is fun but also on the darker end of the Disney spectrum being in the same realm of the Black Cauldron.

A Bridge Too Far

Via: United Artists

I am a big World War II history buff. Growing up in the military, besides the Civil War, I think that WWII has by far some of the best military leaders in history. A Bridge Too Far is one of those films that shows one of the failures of the Allies during the iconic war. The film depicts Operation Market Garden. The film has almost every big star back in the day. The ensemble cast includes Dirk Bogarde, James Caan, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Edward Fox, Elliott Gould, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Hardy Krüger, Laurence Olivier, Ryan O’Neal, Robert Redford, Maximilian Schell and Liv Ullmann. It might not be the greatest WWII film like Saving Private Ryan but it will help you expand your WWII knowledge.

Eraserhead

Via: Libra Films

The man with some crazy looking hair. Eraserhead is one of those films that you need to sit down and watch. It’s a psychological film where David Lynch did it all with writing, directing, producing and editing the entire film. The score will leave you speechless along with the sound design. Those two were before her time. The film is about a man who must take care of his deformed child. The movie is wild and a must watch. Trust me, you will like this film.
