Welcome to a brand-new topic. I will present what I think are the top 10 movies of the year. Now this isn’t in any particular order. It is what I think was the best films in this year. Some you might agree with and others you might scratch your head.

Let me tell you! 1984 had quite a few major hits and a few sleepers. It was tough to bring this list down to 10 but that is what makes it so much fun. So, let the games begin with my favorite 10 films of 1984. Bring out that 80s style.

Ghostbusters

Via: Columbia Pictures

Who You Going To Call?!?! GHOSTBUSTERS! My all-time favorite movie. How can you not love Ghostbusters? You have Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson battling ghost and taking on a god. Also, it has the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man! A giant marshmallow man destroying New York City. I Freakin’ LOVE this movie.

Beverly Hills Cop

Via: Paramount Pictures

You know the theme song! One of the best theme songs in the world. It’s all about Eddie Murphy and that signature laugh. When Murphy comes from Detroit to Beverley Hills to track down a killer, hilarity ensues. Murphy is at his best in this comedy and Patti LaBelle sings her heart out in the soundtrack.

The NeverEnding Story

Via: Warner Bros

If you haven’t watched this movie, you either didn’t have a childhood or you didn’t have a childhood. Yes, the story is strange but hey, the song is in freakin Stranger Things! I don’t know about you but the Wolf demon was scary ass hell and when the horse got stuck in the mud, straight up tears.

Purple Rain

Via: Warner Bros

Mutha Freakin’ Purple Rain! How about you purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka!? You must have some Purple Rain in this list. Get some classic tunes like “Let’s Go Crazy,” “I Would Die 4 U,” and how about the CLASSIC “When Doves Cry” Lord help us all with Prince’s talent. We can’t forget about Morris Day and the Time. The password scene is still a classic till this day

Romancing the Stone

Via: 20th Century Fox

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this film, but it is one of the funniest and entertaining romance films. Kathleen Turner is funny as a romance novelist who has to leave the bright lights of NYC to go and save her sister who is holding her for ransom in Colombia. Michael Douglas is that character that she writes about but is actually real. It was all about them gator boots in the end.

The Karate Kid

Via: Columbia Pictures

You’re the best around, nothing’s gonna ever keep you down! The film that brought the Crane kick, what more could you want in a coming-of-age film. Mr. Miyagi helps a smart ass but highly bullied Daniel LaRusso gain confidence by teaching him karate. The film also has a young Elisabeth Shue. This was a surprise hit back in the day but it still one to watch.

The Terminator

Via: Orion Pictures

You know James Cameron/Arnold Schwarzenegger killer robot film had to be on this list. You want to talk about some high ass intensity, amazing special effects and a great storyline, this movie has it. This was the start of a long film series, but you can stop at the sequel. Plus, the film also brought, “I’ll Be Back” quote before all hell broke loose.

A Nightmare on Elm Street

Via: New Line Cinema

A film that started a generation of nightmares. Gotta add Freddy Kruger and his knife like hand glove to this list. Whether it’s the endless amount of blood spewing up toward the ceiling, a claw coming through the water in the bathtub or other ways, Freddy is coming for you. Man looked like a burnt, crispy potato chip but he is one of nightmares.

Dune

Via: Universal Pictures

I wasn’t going to put it on this list, but it is one of those films that is so bad its good. HE WHO CONTROLS THE SPICE, CONTOLS THE UNIVERSE. This film has everything. Sting looking like Heat Miser. Sir Patrick Stewart looking the same. Man has the fountain of youth running through his veins. Good thing this film had a remake but the classic is still always fun to watch.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension

Via: 20th Century Fox

Hear me out, this is a crazy movie with a ton of stars in it. It’s one of those guilty pleasure films. One of those that you watch and see how idiotic it is but now a days will be a treasure. When you are a physicist, neurosurgeon who is also a test pilot, and rock star, you know it will be a crazy movie. Yet, I watched this as a kid and remember the best name ever: John Bigbooté
