The year my brother was born. 1987 has some classic films that still have a mighty influence today. A year where the best one liners in fil came out with Predator. How about the law having back-up in a robot? There was even some of the best insults in a military movie. 1987 also showed what happens when an affair doesn’t work out and what true love really is.
Predator
Predator is one of those films that is full of action and is honestly a classic in monster movies. The film might be a little cheesy with the one liners, which are still awesome today, filled with more testosterone filled action scenes and just overall badassness (I don’t know if that is even a word but it is a word in this review). Let’s give this movie some props, it introduced one of the all-time best movie monsters in HISTORY! What movie can state that it had TWO governors in it.
Full Metal Jacket
Stanley Kubrick’s Vietnam War flick is presented in two stories. The first one is boot camp and the other is the soldiers fighting in Vietnam. The first half on the film is amazing as Drill Instructor Hartman lets loose on all his recruits. It has some of the best insults is all of film. The second half somewhat looses that edge but holds your attention.
RoboCop
Set in a crime dystopian of Detroit, RoboCop centers on police officer Alex Murphy, who is brutally murdered by a gang of criminals. When Omni Consumer Products find his body, they turn him into a cyborg law enforcer RoboCop. This film is badass with violence, a great story and everything else you need in an action film.
Lethal Weapon
I’m too old for this shit! Lethal Weapon is a buddy cop film about a pair of two of the most opposite LAPD detectives you can meet. On one end is Martin Riggs (Gibson) a former Green Beret who is quite suicidal after the death of his wife. On the other end is veteran officer Roger Murtaugh (Glover) who is getting too old for this shit. Together, they must work together to solve a crazy crime.
Moonstruck
“When the moon hits your eye, Like a big pizza pie, that’s amore.” I was pleasantly surprised with this film, and you always need a great love movie part of a top-10 list. Starring Cher and the always over the top but young Nick Cage, you have a recipe for greatness. The film is a great romantic story with one of the best slap scenes you will ever see.
Evil Dead II
One of the best sequels ever made. Bruce Campbell returns as Ash Williams. Once again, Ash finds himself in the thick of demons as he vacations with his girlfriend to a remote cabin in the woods. He discovers a recording of recitations from a book of ancient texts and when he plays it all hell breaks loose. In the words of Ash, Groovy Baby!
The Princess Bride
As you wish. A classic romance story with sword fighting, lost love, one of the best monologues while searching for a villain, amazing and spot on comedy, and a gentle time between grandfather and grandson. It would be “Inconceivable!” that I didn’t include this film in the top 10.
Fatal Attraction
If you are thinking about having an affair, you need to rethink that. Glenn Close scared the shit out of every man as she became obsessed with Douglass’ character and started to stalk him. Think before you hit it because shit could become strange. Also, you didn’t have to cook that bunny. Glenn Close is the best in this film and she will not be ignored.
The Lost Boys
These boys are not your Peter Pan type crew. The Lost Boys is that comedic/horror film about a family that moves to Cali and becomes embroiled with a group of vampires. The film has an ensemble cast that are quite popular today. Hell, it has the Corey crew in it. This film is definitely a cult classic.
The Untouchables
“I want you to find this nancy-boy Eliot Ness, I want him DEAD! I want his family DEAD! I want his house burned to the GROUND!” A film that follows Eliot Ness and his group of the Untouchables team that bring Al Capone. Connery is great in this film and De Niro is iconic as the legendary gangster. For all that is said, to get caught on tax invasion is crazy.
