1992, I want to say that you were a tough year for me in terms of picking MY top ten films. You have the action films, the horror films, the comedies and the drama all rolled up into one. How do I pick the top ten when there were so many great films. Well, her we go because I am going to deliver the truth. Some of you might not handle the truth of my top ten films of this year.
Aladdin
Disney’s Aladdin is one of Disney’s greatest animated films of all time. Robin Williams as the Genie is phenomenal and forever be one of his greatest performances. The music is one of the best soundtracks of all time. “A Whole New World” is where it’s at or how about “A Friend Like Me?” Instant classics. This is a film you can watch over and over again. What would be your three wishes?
Reservoir Dogs
This was Quentin Tarantino first feature film directing job and he knocked it out of the park. It revolves around diamond thieves whose heist of a jewelry store goes terribly wrong. Love how you don’t know anyone’s name rather than the colors they go by. The torture scene with Madsen dancing before it is chilling. Most give love to Tarantino’s first film.
Bram Stoker’s Dracula
This version of Dracula is larger than life and follows closely to Bram Stoker’s classic novel. You want to see a vampire movie that is over the top in almost every way possible, then this is the film. This is probably one of the most gothic vampire films of all time, and it’s beyond outrageous. It is outrageous in a good and entertaining way. You want to see overacting? This film got it. You want to see some excellent but crazy special effects? This is your film. If you want to see more blood in a movie, then this film has it.
A Few Good Men
“You Can’t Handle the Truth!” The all-time classic line from this military court room drama. The film follows the court-martial of two U.S. Marines charged with the murder of a fellow Marine. It goes into detail of the lawyers as they prepare for the case. Cruise and Moore are great in their roles but Jack Nicholson on the stand will forever make this movie one to watch.
A League of Their Own
“There’s no crying in baseball!” The film tells a fictionalized account of the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). While men were off fighting in WWII, baseball continued with women. You MUST give respect to this film and league. The film is funny and has drama with the players and the situations they are in. Tom Hanks and Geena Davis are great but the rest of the cast with Madonna, Lori Petty, Rosie O’Donnell, Jon Lovitz, David Strathairn, Garry Marshall, and Bill Pullman really make this film.
Unforgiven
Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven is an excellent film that brings back the old school western feel and film. Yet, it is a film that goes beyond the typical western film and places more on the story and characters. One of the greatest western films of all time. Actually, it is just the third western to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Eastwood is at his best while Hackman shows a ruthless side that brought him an Academy Award.
The Mighty Ducks
Quack, Quack, Quack! The Mighty Ducks is one of the best hockey movies ever made. It produced a ton of sequels, tv shows and even a professional hockey team. The movie revolves around a lawyer who has to do community service. He takes a ragtag group of kids, have them believe in themselves and win. The film also showed the “Flying V.” Give it up for the Mighty Ducks.
Passenger 57
“Always bet on BLACK!” Passenger 57 is a film where Wesley Snipes whips ass on a plane as terrorist come with demands. It is one of those films you either love or hate it, but it is an entertaining film. I think it is entertaining and one of the best films of the year. Bruce Payne plays a villain that is terrifying and can take some punches with his sadistic mind. Remember, when you go to the casino, “Always bet on BLACK!”
Batman Returns
Director Tim Burton returns and ups the ante with Batman Returns. If you thought “Batman” was dark, Burton lets everything out of the bag with this darker and more violent version of Batman. Danny DeVito as the Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman/Selina Kyle deserve major credit with showing a darker side to their characters.
Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland
This film will be a shocker to EVERYONE, but I used to watch this film a ton with my brother and it still hits hard today. The story and colors are something to look at with that anime but not anime feel to it. The Nightmare King straight up scared the mess out of my little body and I wished I had a big as scepter to save me.
