Review:

Here we go again with season two. The first season was great, and I was excited for the second season. Where else could you see gods vs. man in an all-out battle? The second season picked up where the last one ended, and this time, there was way more drama but also things I didn’t like. The current standing is 1 win for the humans and two wins for the gods. Shit has definitely gotten intense as the gods first thought this was going to be a cake walk and now there seems to be fear among their ranks. The drama definitely unfolds in this anime.

Let me tell you that this anime EXCELLS with the matches and fights. They are freakin AWESOME and enjoyable to watch. What is great about each match is that you get a backstory on each person who is fighting. Match four is freakin Jack the Ripper vs. Hercules. This match is weird because, for one, the two competitors are complete opposites. Hercules is portrayed as this clean-cut man of the people, and on the other side, you have Jack the Ripper, who was a serial killer. The fight was very entertaining and set the tone for the second season. I want to say that match five was a major step up from match four. The match was Raiden Tameemon vs Shiva, and these two dudes went all out. Where else could you see the greatest sumo wrestler ever fight a god who beat everyone on the way to the top of the mountain. This was the fight that brought me back into the show.

Then we came up with match six in a two-part finale with Buddha switching sides to fight for man against Bishamonten/Zerofuku, who eventually transformed into Hajun. The actual fight between Buddha and the two characters was freakin AWESOME. I kept saying BUDDHA repeatedly! When you think Buddha would go down, the god went divine mode and handled business. Watch this fight because it is fun, and you can cheer for Buddha!

Before the Buddha fights, he causes much trouble in the story. First, he pretty much told Zeus to F-off, but in a nice way. Second, we see him fighting against the Japanese gods and even Loki. This makes several other human warriors ready to do battle. Also in the story, Hades comes and talks about the creature, and Odin is up to something. Oh, I hope there is a season 3!

Although the animation was a highlight of the anime and still is one of the bright points, I have to give it a downgrade because of the use of CGI. I freakin HATE CGI in anime when it looks off. In this anime, the CGI used for Hercules was bad in my eyes. I didn’t like it at all and it throws me off when I am trying to watch the anime.

This season was ALL about Buddha! Buddha had that surfer dude personality, but he was just so chill and relaxed. Even when it looked like he was on the verge of defeat, he was still calm and wanted to reach the god that hated him. Buddha is my hero! Honestly, the characters of Shiva and Raiden Tameemon were great. Shiva is an Indian god who wants to chill, and his best friend wants to be the greatest god. The pair set off and fight everyone until they had to face each other. Raiden was a great sumo wrestler who didn’t know his own strength. I must admit that even Jack the Ripper was cool. The way the show made his special power in seeing color was a nice twist to the famous serial. The mannerisms of the character made him appealing.

Like most sequels, this one took a step back in a few areas. Even with that, it still was a great and entertaining anime. The characters are fun to watch, and the story has certain drama that pushes the story and keeps you interested. Once again, you get some mythology mixed into the backstories. Give season two a chance, and hopefully, there will be a season three.
