Let’s give it up to the one and only Kylo Ren or as his parents call him Ben Solo. Kylo, played by Adam Driver, is the new villain on the block in the Star Wars Universe. Introduced in The Force Awakens, Kylo came in like a boss with his lightsaber. The son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, Kylo was called Ben Solo before he went to the Dark Side. First trained by his uncle, the great Luke Skywalker, Ben became seduced by the Dark Side and decided to roll with them. Looking to be like his grandfather, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren is a new villain with many issues.
Kylo tries to have the same fearsome appearance as his grandfather, the great and powerful Darth Vader. Kylo is a tall man who is dark and lanky just like Anakin back his youthful days. Kylo has long but thin arms and legs. Why does everyone look like they need to eat a sandwich. He has thick, black hair, a large nose and a normal chin. When he is in his full on Sith mode and clothing, he wears a metal mask that covers his whole head. Like I said, dude really wants to be like his grandfather.
Kylo might be powerful, but he acts like a child. Kylo’s personality was heavily influenced by his parents. He felt abandoned by them as they were hardly ever around. I guess you can say, he needed to be hugged a lot more. During his youth and being a strong focal point of the force, Ben started hearing voices from Snoke, who lured and manipulated Ben to the dark side. As Snoke and Emperor Palpatine communicated with Ben and presenting themselves as friends, his mind became corrupt. They managed to make Ben doubt the Jedi and his family. When Ben saw Luke with a lightsaber ignited at his head while he was sleeping, he felt betrayed and fully accepted the dark side
Ben changed his name to Kylo Ren as he fell in love with the power that the Dark Side provided and wanted to be like his grandfather, Lord Darth Vader. This love made him have his clunky looking helmet and the goal of destroying all the Jedi and their traditions. As Kylo Ren, dude is straight up ruthless, savage and wants to destroy everything. Even as Kylo Ren, he still is a whiny little boy. This makes him irresponsible, makes a ton of mistakes, doesn’t want to compromise, is temperamental and has a ton of internal issues. Dude really needs therapy but wait, he is exactly like his grandfather when he was in his Anakin years. One major difference is that Kylo has zero control over his temper and emotions. Once again, he needs some therapy.
Kylo Ren decides to join the First Order because of his family issues. He sees the First Order as family and serves them with extreme passion. He is extremely “loyal” to his master Snoke but even that passion is questioned. He always questions the role of family and he sees it as weakness. He believes so much in Vader that he believes Vader was a supreme being. Trying to climb a mountain that you probably never reach.
During his First Order run, dude tried to blow up his uncle, kill both of his parents, chop anyone in half and had no issue using the power of the force. The scene with him and Luke was funny to watch as he sent so many beams at Luke and wasn’t happy. He did have an awesome scene with Rey when he fought against Snoke.
Kylo Ren is one of the most complex and complicated villains in Star Wars history and film. A villain with family issues, abandonment issues, power issues and everything in between. Kylo tries to be like his grandfather Darth Vader and comes off as a whiny little kid. Beside that, he is still a bad ass villain and has the power of the Dark Side with him.
