Who hates clowns? There are many people who hate clowns. One of Stephen King’s most iconic and deadliest villains has to be It aka Pennywise the Clown. First played by the brilliant Tim Curry in the original and then Bill Skarsgård in the remake, It is a fearsome villain who preys on kids. Gotta give it up to Stephen King for designing and coming up with this dancing clown villain. Straight up creepy in all ways.
It really has no physical appearance. No mortal really knows and has ever seen the true form of It. It takes on many forms in the movies as the villain shapeshifts to things that will make people drop their guard to attack and kill them. In the film, the final form the villain takes is that of an enormous spider because why not and that is the closest thing a person’s mind can comprehend. The true form of It actually exists not in this plane or dimension. Its true form exists in an inter-dimensional realm called “Deadlights” which makes killing the villain even harder. Here is the problem, if a human looks at these “Deadlights” they will go insane and die.
Now, in the human world It has the Pennywise the Clown form. For many people, the clown might be way scarier than a spider. Clowns really do scare people all the time. Even though It is genderless, it is generally referred to as a male but in spider form it’s a female. In the Pennywise form with whatever version you watch, it dresses in a clown outfit in the first film and some type of opera outfit in the newer version. Once again, creepy looking. Its face is painted white and has two red lines going from its eyes to cheeks. Usually, it has bright ass orange hair. Once again, as a shapeshifter, you don’t know the true appearance of this fearsome villain.
What type of personality does an inter-dimensional being have? As a predator of children, It is a bully and a monster to its very core. When you go after children, you are creepy but as the villain states, they are easier to trick and frighten. It enjoys toying with its victims as it is sadistic by terrifying, tormenting and harassing them all the way until it slaughters them. The reason why, as It states, “fear floods the body by adding salt to the meat.” Blah and creepy.
It also mocks its prey using whatever means to exploit and gain an advantage. It mocks Bill for his stuttering and the loss of his younger brother. All of this have led this villain to loving death, fear and destruction. Like a good number of villains, It is arrogant, narcissistic and views itself as a superior being especially to its mortal enemy, Maturin “the Turtle.” It can’t stand Maturin because the being is benevolent and believes that Maturin is stupid. It also views humans as inferior and only good for being played with and consumed.
Being an inter-dimensional being, It is also highly intelligent, cunning and manipulative. These are all valuable traits it displays as IT displays warmth and friendliness to making sure its prey guard is down before attacking. Look at what happened to Georgie. Made that little boy trust him before biting off his arm and dragging him away. In its Pennywise disguise, It takes on the full facade of a clown as a loud, cheerful, sociable character to grab those children.
Even as a deadly villain, It is a coward at heart. Dude straight up be scared. When confronted and people grow a pair to stand up against the villain, dude retreats from any fight and starts to shrivel up like a raisin. It is emotionally immature and if it doesn’t get the attention it wants starts to cry out or lash out. During this moment, It biggest weaknesses are goodness, love and friendship. So keep those friends close.
It aka Pennywise is one villain I never want to come across and I didn’t even go into detail all the abilities this villain has. Pretty much, stay your ass away from clowns. If they start dancing or asking you for things, say NOPE and run off. Don’t stick your hand down a drain. Make a new one.
