Here we go again with some great movie quotes. Gangster films are the gift that keeps on giving with movie quotes. You simply enjoy them because we all wanted to be the boss of bosses. To look people in the eyes and let them know you mean business. With a simple word, their whole world would be made or destroyed. Damn, I love a good gangster quote.
“Made it ma! Top of the world” – Arthur “Cody” Jarrett, White Heat (1949)
Starring the legendary James Cagney, White Heat is one of the greatest gangster films ever made. Cagney plays Arthur “Cody” Jarrett, a ruthless, psychotic, badass, tough as nails, puts up with zero shit from anyone leader of the Jarrett gang. The man loves his ma dearly who is part of his gang. The quote above with towards the end of the film when Jarrett surrounded while standing on top of a gas storage tank. Rather than going peacefully, Jarrett laughs as the tank explodes. Cagney amazingly delivers this line with a manic smile. This is how you want to go out, on top of the world.
“Leave the Gun, Take the Cannoli.” – Clemenza, The Godfather (1972)
The one thing you don’t do is betray the love and respect of the Godfather. It might get you killed. Clemenza and his boy Rocco handle business in the scene where Clemenza learns that his right-hand man was in the know of trying to assassinate Vito Corleone. When Rocco shoots and kills his homeboy Cosa, Clemenza drops this legendary line caring more about the pastry then the actual murder. This shows that betrayal is not cool and your life isn’t as important than a cannoli.
“Look at me, never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut.” – Jimmy Conway, Goodfellas (1990)
Goodfellas is an awesome gangster film. One of the best around and it has many life lessons. To me the best quote in the whole film is the one Jimmy dropped on a young Henry after he got pinched. One, you never tell on your friends because that is your crew. If they are ride and die, when shit hits the fan, you roll with them. You never start running your mouth. Keep everything close to the chest because you never know who is listening. Great words of wisdom.
