Listen, I freakin LOVE Demon Slayer. It is one of the best series around and one of the best series ever made. I love the action, the storyline, the characters, the animation, and the overall feel of the series. When season four came out, I was hyped because season three ended with some major shit, with Nezuko being the first demon to stand in the sun and Muzan sending orders to capture her. Yet, season four was a major letdown until the last episode, when shit went from 0 to 100 real quick.

First, the season is only eight episodes long, and the first episode is an hour long. That is beside the point. For the storyline of this arc, aka the Hashira Training Arc, this season was one where you caught your breath from all the other seasons. Even though it is called the Hashira Training Arc, all the episodes revolve around Tanjiro.

The season wasn’t boring, but it wasn’t the greatest. When the Demon Corps leader asks for his Hashira to train the corps for the upcoming battle, many of them jump on board because the discovery of Tanjiro’s powers to enhance them becomes evident. In each episode, Tanjiro goes to each Hashira to learn a particular skill along with other corps members. Some of the episodes were fun, while others you could do without. The ones that showed up in past seasons get about half the episode to train Tanjiro before relieving him and saying he has mastered their skill.

The others, like Sanemi Shinazugawa and Obanai Iguro, are shown to be the ones who don’t want Tanjiro around. Obanai teaches Tanjiro some things, and I liked his training exercises, but he would rather train another Hashira than train everyone else. The one great episode was the one with Gyomei Himejima, aka the Stone Hashira. We get his background and why tears always flow from his eyes. In this episode, Tanjiro and Inosuke get stronger, leaving Zenitsu behind. At the end of the episode, Zenitsu seems down on himself.

The last five minutes of episode seven and all of episode eight were where it was at. When you hear the footsteps of the approaching Muzan, the dude walks through the door, and it looks like the animators decided to go all out with his appearance. The dude walked up with the smoke, that pure white suit that seemed to shine in the moonlight, and his piercing red eyes.

In episode 8, everything went crazy and insane. When homeboy let off his bomb it was over for everyone. That is when this anime returned to its original greatness. The animation alone looked so real that it was hard for me to figure out if it was real or not. That bomb just blew my eyes away because I wasn’t expecting that. Then, the whole episode was trying to stop Muzan before he could regenerate. Dude regenerated at an incredible rate. The final scene is AWESOME when Muzan brings everyone into his world. When I say everyone, the dude did a Gary Oldman Norman Stansfield. You know, shit was about to go down in the next season.

This season of Demon Slayer was meh, as it felt more like a filler season than an actual season. Seeing Tanjiro and the crew get back together and train with the Hashira was nice. The real and exciting part was at the end when Muzan showed up, and shit hit the fan. I have high hopes that the final season will bring this anime back to the glory it has with the animation and action. I want the Entertainment Arc type action.
