When I finished watching Black Clover, I saw that on Netflix, they had Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King. This really made me happy as I was disappointed that the series stopped when it was getting good. I WANT TO SEE THE WAR WITH THE SPADE KINGDOM!! Sorry for yelling. This movie is fantastic and everything I wanted in an anime movie. Even though some say it isn’t canon, it technically takes place after the events of chapter #219. Even if it was a stand-alone film, it was still fantastic to watch and everything I wanted in an anime film.

The film begins with the Clover Kingdom celebrating and getting ready to watch the Triumph, a fighting tournament held every ten years. Yuno is up against a masked mage who is “ironically” Asta as he was exiled from fighting as an investigation is pending against him. Yuno shows off a little bit with his legendary 4-leaf Grimoire and wind powers, but Asta has anti-magic and can stop almost any magical attack. As the two prepare for their fight, four shadowy figures stand tall on pillars above the arena. One of them is Conrad Leto, the former predecessor of the current Wizard King Julius Novachrono. Conrad was a nobleman respected by all in the Clover Kingdom until he decided that how the kingdom was being run was not good enough. Conrad turned against the kingdom and Julius, only to be locked away for years. Conrad has now returned with the “Imperial Sword” to destroy the Clover Kingdom and revive it where equality prevails. With the sword’s power, Conrad brings back up by reviving some of the most powerful Wizard Kings in existence. He brings with him Edward Avalaché, Princia Funnybunny, and Jester Garandaros, who share the same vision as him. Will Asta and the crew be able to handle such a threat?

What I love about this anime film is that it gets straight to the action. There is no messing around. Conrad shows up with the three past Wizard Kings and is like, “We hate this world, and it is time to fuck shit up.” The first battle didn’t go near what the Magic Knights expected. Edward Avalaché, Princia Funnybunny, and Jester Garandaros were freakin OP, and I loved every minute of their fight. Even Conrad was on a different level than anyone else and was also a former Wizard King. You didn’t know if the Magic Knights could hang because they were so OP. The four former Wizard Kings send some captains away and steal the magic from others. During the first battle, you hear Conrad’s vision but don’t know what happens or why he is doing it. Conrad’s vision is to eliminate corruption and segregation between the nobility and the commoners. The first fight between Asta and Conrad was an ass-whipping. It was such a bad ass-whippin’ for Asta that Conrad didn’t even look like he broke a sweat and stole some powers from the others. Loved every second of it.

After that first ass whippin’, Asta manages to escape a rally the troops for a major attack. I don’t need to go into detail about them getting the sword and blah because you are watching this anime for the action, and damnit, it was fun to watch. What I like is that Mereoleona the Undefeated Lioness shows up and is like we going to battle punks. She helps fly a ship into the new fortress that Conrad has made. What I love is that the Wizard Kings don’t fight together but in individual locations. At each location, we really find out more about them.

The fight with Edward Avalaché was intense but also subdued because of Edward’s stoic and calm nature. Edward was the 20th Wizard King and a user of Ice Magic. Think of him as Elsa from Frozen, but times a million. Before rising to the ranks of Wizard King, Edward was a church priest living a simple life and taking care of orphan children. It’s all about the children. When raiders from the Diamond King attacked and destroyed his orphanage, Edward said fuck it, join the Magic Knights to become stronger, and never let what happened to the children repeat itself. Edward gains popularity but is opposed by the nobility, and the nobility decides to end his life. The actual fight was cool to watch as it was another coming-out party for Noelle, as she is the water mage. Edward and Noelle go at it, and I liked how the fight ended.

The second fight featured was with Jester Garandros, aka the 16th Wizard King and user of Barrier Magic. Jester was the fun, Joker-like Wizard King as he loved to fight and when shit got real seemed to up his powers and game to another level. Hearing his laugh was creepy but fun. We learn that Jester was born into nobility but joined the Magic Knights and became friends with two commoners. When one of his friends dies, he decides to rise through the ranks to become Wizard King, vowing never to let what happens to his friend happen again. Starting to see a theme here. Jester was the ambitious one as he said fuck the world and wanted to conquer all the kingdoms for an empire. You can guess what happened? Just like Edward, the nobles put a stop to him. This fight between Jester and almost everyone was excellent. Jester looked at everyone and was like, “Bring that shit on.” He seemed to have a ball, showing his strength and letting people know his barriers were the strongest ever. A freakin great fight to watch.

My second favorite fight, or maybe favorite fight, was with Princia Funnybunny against Mereoleona. If you play video games, Princia is like Malenia. She was a complete and total badass. Princia was the 11th Wizard King and a user of Legion Magic. When her family lost everything to the nobles, she joined the Magic Knights and became a freakin BEAST. She became known as the Undefeated Warrior. Her story is pretty messed up. Her 1-v-1 fight with Meroleona was AWESOME!! Holy Shit, was it awesome and fun to watch. First, Princia looked unimpressed, but when Mereoleona started warming up, she went all out. It was the fight you really wanted to see. There were explosions, going past your limit every second, and pure AWESOMENESS!! I love this fight, and I could watch it repeatedly.

The final fight between Asta and Conrad was like a cherry on top of this fantastic anime cake. Conrad was the 27th Wizard King and a user of Key Magic. Asta and Conrad have the same outlook on life, but Conrad has decided to go in a different direction. This fight had two transformations, with Conrad looking like a rainbow and Asta going into his demon form, which was awesome. I love how Asta got the Imperial Sword and did almost a full-on Goku Spirit Bomb attack. It was crazy to watch because about an hour ago, Asta was getting his ass handed to him by Conrad. I don’t care what anyone says; Asta will become the new Wizard King after this fight.

Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King is by far one of the best anime movies in a good while excluding Demon Slayer. Demon Slayer is on another level. Sorry, Demon Slayer is in another stratosphere. If you are a little disappointed in not having new episodes of Black Clover, this film is excellent for the series. I highly recommend watching this film because it is AWESOME!
