What makes a great hero? Does a hero face of danger, combats adversity through impressive feats of ingenuity, bravery, or strength, often sacrificing their own personal concerns for a greater good? Is the hero an average person, or do they have unusual powers? Does a hero willingly go on an adventure, or are they thrust into an adventure where they don’t really know what to do?
What makes the hero go into action? Are they called into action to fight against an evil warlord? Do they want to save their lands from an invading army? Or is there an evil monster or force that is ravaging the lands and killing all? Along the way, does the hero meet many people that help him achieve their goal of defeating the so-called evil, or are they alone on their journey.
Would you choose to be a hero on a quest to avenge your parents and fight the evil dragon that took them away from you? Would you recruit people on your journey? Would you try to use the way of the sword or find another way to bring down a mighty force that you have no shot at beating?
Overview:
In a fantasy world, on the continent of Kunaaan, three kingdoms rule the lands. Saint Amoria, Ishilfeen, and Vanlodis search for control over the lands. The three kingdoms have a fragile power balance with each other. The slightest mistake could lead to a war at any moment.
Along with the three mighty kingdoms is the evil dragon, Daganzord. Daganzord resides on the continent and rules with evil power. No one is powerful enough to stop him from spreading destruction and leaving scorched earth.
Bairo, Kismitete, and a party of wizards attempted to seal Daganzord and end his wicked ways. As the ceremony takes place, something happens that leaves all dead. The event is known as the Balbagoa Tragedy. Hiiro, Bairo, and Kismitete’s son is saved by Giiru and swears to avenge his parent’s death by training himself with the sword. Once Hiiro turned sixteen, Hiiro sets out to slay the dragon that killed his parents. Along the way, Hiiro meets many interesting types of people to help him on his quest to defeat the mighty dragon and get the vengeance he craves.
Review:
Seisen Cerberus has an okay story. It is a story that you will see many times in an anime: a powerful force comes to the land (a dragon in this anime). Someone tries to destroy the dominant power (main character’s parents). The powerful force kills the ones that try to stop it (the dragon kills the main character’s parents). The little boy grows up to exact revenge against the force that left them without a home (boy grows to fight dragon). Let’s not forget, a boy shows the power and some ruthless person wants to get ahold of that power. Same story but even more boring than the others. The story actually somewhat reminded me of a movie. The film is Dragon Heart, as one holds the other heart’s in their body. Honestly, the story is really dull and can be skipped. I didn’t like it at all and found it repetitive and trying way too hard to make it entertaining. Maybe one thought is, COME UP WITH A BETTER STORYLINE WITH ENGAGING CHARACTERS! There were too many plot holes in the story along with moving at a quick pace to finally make the story work and seem complete
The characters and their development was downright awful. Some of the most annoying and boring characters I have ever watched. The characters in this anime were the “standard” characters you see in some of the fantasy anime. I couldn’t stand the main character. The main character, Hiiro, is a pain in the ass and spoiled brat. At first, you think he is this world’s greatest warrior only to be disappointed that he can’t do anything. Waste of a character. Another character is Giruu. Giruu is the typical character that is a guardian of the Hiiro. He is a muscular character that could destroy the main character but chooses not to because he is battling his own demons. Then there is the other annoying companion, Palpa. Palpa always complains about money when he doesn’t work. Finally, there is Saraato. Saraato plays the mysterious girl that no one really knows about but always seems to get in trouble. All the characters are quite a pain and boring.
The animation was standard to subpar for this anime. It didn’t excite me or was very appealing to look at. One of the highlights of the animation is when Daganzord appears. He is represented as everything evil in the world. His colors are black while being surrounded by black lightning. His eyes are drawn as dark red as a ruby. I guess another animation scene is with Hiiro, transforming into his dragon form. Black electricity surrounds him as his eyes become red with a bright red scar on his body. Besides those two situations, all the other characters seemed to be drawn with whatever colors the artist had in their head at the time. Many of the scenes are bland and boring, with colors going all over the place.
Overall, Seisen Cerberus is a very dull fantasy anime that is lackluster in almost all areas. The overall theme of the story with revenge as the centerpiece is good, but what ultimately fails this anime is the actual pace and detail of the storyline. The characters fail this anime to being even descent. Go watch something else. You can save six hours of your life.
