The wonderful, amazing and talented Jodie Foster. Foster has had a wonderful and long career. She has won numerous awards including two Academy Awards, three Golden Globes and the honorary Cecil B. DeMille Award. Foster has stared in many films that are legendary in the film game. She played a child prostitute in Martin Scorsese Taxi Driver, was a rape survivor in the Accused and knocked it out of the park portraying FBI agent Clarice Starling in the creepy film, The Silence of the Lambs. Foster continues to be an icon in the movie industry.
Clarice Starling- The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Jodi Foster holds her own and does a masterful job with her character. She does her best in finding the character, and Foster makes you want to root for her. She seems like the unlikely character against the mighty foes. Foster shows the innocence of the character but also that the character is willing to do her job at the highest standard.
Sarah Tobias- The Accused (1988)
I want to take a moment to applaud Jodie Foster as Sarah Tobias. I thought Silence of the Lambs was her first Academy Award win. Honestly, Foster was spectacular in this role, and she deserved her award because she was that good. I think she was far better than her iconic Silence of the Lambs role. Foster showed Sarah’s fear, pain, and anger as the case and story went on. I loved how she went H.A.M on dude’s truck. Foster also made sure to make Sarah a strong but sympathetic character.
Iris Steensma- Taxi Driver (1976)
This film was the one that made Foster a freakin star! The role resulted in her first Oscar nomination. In the Martin Scorsese film, Foster plays Iris, the teen adult film star that anti-hero cab driver Travis Bickle drives to save from the life she’s leading. Foster is great and seems to be so comfortable in her role at a young age. This is the film that showed Foster would be a force to be reckoned with in the film industry.
Laurel Sommersby- Sommersby (1993)
In a film set in the Reconstruction era following the American Civil War. Foster plays Laurel who husband was killed in the war. When her husband suddenly returns, she becomes suspicious and suspects that the man is an impostor. Foster gives such a strong performance opposite of Gere. She wants to be the loving wife but doesn’t know if the man that is her husband can be trusted.
Mrs. Annabelle Bransford- Maverick (1994)
I had a MAJOR crush on Foster watching her as Mrs. Annabelle Bransford. Foster is funny, cute and everything you want in a lady who is a con artist. She is brilliant as she gains the upper hand on the people she plays cards against. This is one of my favorite roles of Foster.
Dr. Eleanor Arroway- Contact (1997)
Foster gives a brilliant and exceptional performance as a SETI scientist who finds evidence of extraterrestrial life and is chosen to make first contact. Foster goes through great lengths to make contact. The special effects add on to this long as film but it is Foster’s performance that keeps you entertained and wanting to see what will happen.
Meg Altman- Panic Room (2002)
In the film that made many people want a panic room, Foster plays Meg a mother who protects her daughter by hiding out in a panic room while her house is invaded by burglars. It’s crazy to see a young Kristen Stewart. This film is intense and Foster is a bad ass mother doing everything she can to protect her little girl.
Kyle Pratt- Flightplan (2005)
The movie was meh but all actors have movies like that on their list. Foster’s performance is one of the highlights of this film. Foster plays Kyle Pratt, a recently widowed American aircraft engineer living in Berlin. She flies back to the US with her young daughter and dead husband’s body. Things go crazy when her daughter mysteriously disappears, and she struggles to find her. The film is an okay psychological film but Foster’s performance is what really stands out.
Annabel Andrews/Ellen Andrews- Freaky Friday (1976)
Disney loves them some Freaky Friday. Foster stared in the original version of the film. The film still holds up today and could still be the best version out there. Foster earned her first major film award with a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Foster was excellent as she played dual roles. Never wish to switch bodies on Friday the 13th.
Nell Kellty- Nell (1994)
Foster is FANTASTIC in her Academy Award nominated performance. She plays Nell, a young woman isolated for years in the woods by her mother. Nell never had any interactions with other humans. When they roll up after her mother died, she can speak English but her words are a little off. Foster propels this film with her performance and must be commended.
