Jamie Foxx has had an amazing career so far and will continue to influence and be the great artist that he is. Foxx started off as a comedian and performed in the classic sketch comedy show In Living Color. He went on to have his own television sitcom The Jamie Foxx Show. Foxx became widely known for his portrayal of Ray Charles and receiving advice from the legendary Oprah and Sidney Poitier where Foxx won the Academy Award, BAFTA, Screen Actors Guild Award, Critics’ Choice Movie Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. Foxx has gone on and starred in a variety of roles such as the bounty hunter Django, cab driver in Collateral, Electro in the Amazing Spider-Man and so many other films. Foxx has even had a successful music career with hits like Blame it and featured artists in Gold Digger.

Ray Charles- Ray (2004)

In the movie focuses on the many trials and tribulations of this great musician, Foxx plays the legendary singer to perfection. Foxx won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of the legendary singer. What Foxx did so well was embodied the mannerisms and feel of Ray Charles. The way he swung his head when singing and playing the piano was truly masterful. Foxx also seemed to get the voice of Charles down that made you believe he put in a lot of time with Ray Charles before his death.

Django Freeman- Django Unchained (2012)

Via: The Weinstein Company

Playing the lead in Quentin Tarantino’s film about a former slave turned bounty hunter, Foxx is excellent. Foxx did an excellent job as Django. It wasn’t Academy Award stuff, but the character development that Foxx showed his character was significant. We see a slave who couldn’t read to one that was the quickest draw and talk like the best of them. Just to watch Django play his role as a one-eye Charlie was something else.

Various characters- In Living Color (1991-1994)

Via: Fox

The sketch comedy show that launched the careers of many comedians and actors like Jim Carrey, Tommy Davidson, David Alan Grier, and T’Keyah Crystal Keymáh along with Jennifer Lopez and Carrie Ann Inaba as members of In Living Color’s dance troupe The Fly Girls, with actress Rosie Perez serving as choreographer. Foxx was one of the stars of the show with his turn as Wanda and so many others. This was a big break that led Foxx to other comedy roles.

Himself- Blame It (2009)

Via: J

Released as the second official single from his third studio album, Intuition (2008), Foxx had a MONSTER hit with this song that featured T-Pain. The song received many awards and won for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 52nd Grammy Awards. The song was Foxx’s most successful single from the album, peaking at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100

Willie Beamen- Any Given Sunday (1999)

Via: Warner Bros

My name is Willie… Willie Beamen! Foxx starred alongside Al Pacino and got into it with LL Cool J in this football film. This film had a lot of football stars and to me gives an inside look into the craziness of football life. Now most people say his character was modeled after Charlie Batch but we all know it was Mike Vick as he ran the ball and threw later.

Max Durocher- Collateral (2004)

Via: DreamWorks Pictures

Starring alongside Tom Cruise in this intense and amazing thriller, Foxx plays Max Durocher, a Los Angeles cab driver, and his customer, Vincent, played by Cruise. After being offered and accepting a high fare for driving to several locations, Max soon finds himself a hostage of Vincent as he soon learns the hitman has been taking out targets. Foxx is great as a man who doesn’t want to be involved. Foxx turn was so good that he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor the same year as winning Best Actor.

Jamie Percy King – The Jamie Foxx Show (1996-2001)

Via: The WB

Foxx played Jamie King, an aspiring musician from Terrell, Texas, who has come to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment. As a broke ass musician, he works at his family’s hotel which is owned by his aunt and uncle. The show was decent but what it did do is help launch Foxx’s acting career.

Featured Artist- Gold Digger (2005)

Via: Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam

You want to talk about a MONSTER and ICONIC hit, look no further than Kanye’s West Gold Digger. The reason it’s on Foxx’s list is because he was the featured artists. In the song, Foxx sets the stage by detailing how he was taken by a gold digger while also calling upon his inner Ray Charles by sampling “I Got a Woman.” At the 48th Annual Grammy Awards, the song won Best Rap Solo Performance and also received a nomination for Record of the Year.

Leon ‘Bats’ Jefferson III- Baby Driver (2017)

Via: Sony Pictures Releasing

In this film about a getaway driver seeking freedom from a life of crime with his girlfriend, Foxx is insane in this film. Playing Bats, he is Doc’s sadistic, ruthless henchman, who has little regard for the people in his way. It is rare to see Foxx in a villainous role and he excelled at it. He was truly terrifying to watch as he didn’t care about anyone around him.

Joe Gardner- Soul (2020)

Via: Walt Disney/Pixar

It’s hard to believe that Foxx really doesn’t lead his voice to animation. He would be great at it. He starred in Pixar’s Soul. Foxx plays Joe Gardner, a pianist who is killed in an accident. He was just about to have his big break as a jazz musician and life came at him quick. With his soul in the afterlife, he decides to reunite his separated soul and body. The film has many strong themes, music and comedy that really go with Foxx always tries to accomplish.
