Jim Carrey is one of the funniest comedians of his generation. Known for his energetic performances, Carrey first gained recognition in the sketch comedy series, In Living Color. He reached new stardom in 1994 with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber. Even though Carrey has been in many comedic roles and made a career from it, he has done dramatic roles as in the Truman Show and Man on the Moon. He has also done some other roles that showed him as a versatile actor. Give praise to one of the best that has made you laugh.

Ace Ventura- Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994)

Via: Warner Bros

I think this was the first film I truly noticed Carrey. As the famous pet detective hired to find the Miami Dolphins mascot, Carrey is hilarious. I think this was his breakout role! He was over-the-top, hilarious and iconic sayings. The air humps and the fighting a shark and the tutu scene. It might not be viewable today but it was a classic back in the 90s.

Stanley Ipkiss /The Mask- The Mask (1994)

Via: New Line Cinema

One of the funniest movies around, Carrey owned this film and was on a roll in 1994. Carrey plays Stanley Ipkiss, a loser bank clerk who finds a magical wooden mask that transform him into a green-faced troublemaker. Carrey is beyond amazing, and funny as hell. He made this film with his personality, acting and ability to act a complete fool. Side note: the film is Cameron Diaz first ever film.

Fire Marshall Bill/various role- In Living Color (1990-1994)

Via: Fox

In Living Color was an iconic show that was like SNL but showed the black culture. Mixed in all that chocolate was Jim Carrey. He was hilarious with his skits and the characters he played. Fire Marshall Bill was one that became iconic. Carrey starred in all five season and this lead him to bigger things. We have to give respect for where it all started.

The Grinch- How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

Via: Universal Pictures

Jim Carrey shines, embodies and is my spirit person or creature. Even though the film is meh, Carrey literally carries this film as the Grinch. He has so many classic lines and a force in this film. I heard he was really moody in this film for spending over 8 hours in make-up. I would be to but I applaud the performance of Carry.

Count Olaf- Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)

Via: Paramount Pictures

Carrey is HILARIOUS as Count Olaf from the Lemony Snicket film. Carrey improvised many of his lines as the evil count who tried to steal the inheritance of the Baudelaire children. The scene where he does his performances was freakin hilarious. It was nice to see Carrey take on such a villainous role because he was truly evil in this role.

Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik- Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)

Via: Paramount Pictures

Sonic the Hedgehog was one of my favorite games growing up. Now that I remember it, Sonic the Hedgehog was my very first game I ever bought for myself. Carrey is hilarious as the manic D. Robotnik. His is egotistical, methodical and a pleasure to watch. The whole dance scene is top notch as you will crack a ton of laughs while watching it.

Truman Burbank- The Truman Show (1998)

Via: Paramount Pictures

The Truman Show is one a great film and Jim Carrey stars as Truman Burbank. The movie revolves around Truman who thinks he is living an ordinary life but is actually the biggest and longest reality star where his life was a show from birth. I was impressed with Carrey’s dramatic turn as he was perfect for this role and enjoyable to watch.

Fletcher Reede- Liar Liar (1997)

Via: Universal Pictures

One of Carrey’s best and funniest films of all time. What if you were such a pathological liar that your son wished for you to tell the truth for 24 hours. That is the premise of Liar Liar. Carrey is hilarious as Fletcher Reede, a lawyer who built his entire career on lying. Sounds about right with lawyers. Carrey is funny as he tries his best to lie but can’t. The pen is blue scene is by far one of the funniest scenes. The whole movie is funny and if you aren’t paying attention, you will miss Carrey’s iconic Fireman Marshall Bill.

Bruce Nolan/Bruce Almighty- Bruce Almighty (2003)

Via: Universal Pictures

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to be God? To be the man upstairs, the known ruler and creator of everything? Bruce Almighty is the film that answers the question. Carrey starts as Bruce Nolan, a down-on-his-luck television reporter who complains to God that he ain’t doing shit. When God offers Bruce his job for one week, craziness ensues. The whole answering emails and the scene with Steve Carell is hilarious.

Lloyd Christmas- Dumb and Dumber (1994)

Via: New Line Cinema

I have no words for this film and Carrey’s performance. This is one of the dumbest films imaginable (no pun intended) and it works so well. It is unbelievable that Carrey and freakin Jeff Daniels work so well together. A film about trying to return a briefcase is beyond mind-blowing with how funny and entertaining it can be. Carrey commanded this film with his craziness from start to finish. With the iconic saying, “There is a chance.” Who would’ve thought this film would be such a monster hit.
