Tubi is the gift that keeps on giving. Not only does the free streaming service release some of the most recent blockbuster films, but it also has some bottom-of-the-barrel films. If you need to find some movies that you wondered why they were ever made, then look no further than Tubi. Horror movies are the one genre that really has awful films. Lo and behold, Tubi delivered a horror movie that confused me and made me want to bury myself in a deep hole. That film is Camp 139. Camp 139 is that freaky, strange film that made very little sense, but hey, what horror movies do sometimes. The film revolves around a sex/drug fun camping trip that goes horribly wrong when a killer stalks four teens through the wilderness by luring them to an abandoned Army hospital.

We are introduced to two young couples who are weeks away from graduating high school. I didn’t take their names down as it didn’t seem like I would care that much about them. I did take the names of the two main female characters, Stacey and Haley. Stacey was the prettier of the two, but hey, that was the only good thing about this film. Well, the young pairs decided to go on a camping trip where they could do drugs and bang all night. Doesn’t seem that bad, right? Well, think again because horror movies will mess it up.

The pair go to some remote town where they are harassed by some redneck bikers and a police officer. We see them for two minutes, and they are gone from the film, never to be seen again. Cool, and the pairs go to some desolate wilderness of Fossil Creek. What is the worst that could happen? Stacy and Brandon (finally thought of another person’s name) dip out to get their freak on for a while. The camping seems cool when Haley is kidnapped, tortured, and put in a bathtub, where she drowns by the Patient. Things continue to get crazy when Mike is also captured and has his stomach ripped open by the killer. The scenes are not scary but seem out of place.

In a quick reveal, we learn that Brandon, aka Stacy’s boyfriend, is the actual killer who dresses up in a hazmat suit to do his killing. We learn from Barndon’s brother (I think) the true story of the Patient or the Army hospital. It was a science experiment that went wrong, and the government doing research from World War 2. Yep, can’t do anything right. Pretty much, teens are recruited and brainwashed to be assassins. Brandon somehow became one of those teens from over the years. I don’t know how or why. It didn’t make any sense to me, and it probably won’t make any sense to you.

With these types of films, I try not to rip the actors. When you need acting credits and a job, you take and try anything. I’m not going to hate that fact. If I were an actor trying to make it big, I’d take any job. Everyone tried to make this film believable or at least give a sense of horror from what was going on.

The actual film and direction itself were completely a B-movie-type feel. It seemed to have this orange filter or glow going on in each scene. After a while, the effect really didn’t make sense. You are in an abandoned hospital, and you have this bright ass orange filter going on like they are in the desert. If you are in the wilderness, how does the effect look like you are in the middle of the freakin desert?

Camp 139 is one of those horror films that tries, but you will quickly forget or never watch. I highly believe you will never watch it. The only way is to go down into the depths of Tubi and find this film. Hell, I don’t even know why it popped up on my recommendation list.
