Here we go again!! Demon Slayer Season 3 is here, and we have an entire new season of two new Hashira and Upper Moon Demons. This anime could break into the top 5 if it keeps up its current pace.
If you want to see an anime with a great story, this one is it. The animation in this anime is AMAZING. The battle and fight scenes are good. Get ready once again to become a Demon Slayer and watch Tanjiro and others fight and whip some demon ass.
Overview
The Swordsmith Village arc takes place after the Entertainment District arc. After defeating one of the Upper Moon demons, demon king Muzan summons his remaining five Upper Rank demons. Muzan is pissed about their failures and lack of finding the blue spider lily. After gaining some information, Muzan sends Gyokko and Hantengu, Upper Moon #5 and #4, respectively, to destroy the Swordsman village and cripple the Demon Slayer Corps.
After two months of being in a coma, Tanjiro has a dream of one of his ancestors. His ancestor encounters a Demon Slayer from the past who wears the same earrings as himself. Tanjiro wakes up and finds that everyone has recovered from their injuries. Zenitsu and Inosuke are summoned to individual missions, while Tanjiro is ordered to the Swordsmith Village to speak with his swordsmith, Hotaru Haganezuka. Hotaru refuses to make him a new sword because he seems to break them all the time. Tanjiro and Nezuko arrive at the village and meet the Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji and the village chief. Tanjiro also encounters Genya, Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa’s younger brother and fellow Demon Slayer, and the Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito, who is looking for a secret weapon. While Tanjiro is doing his much-needed R&R is appreciated, chaos falls upon the village as Gyokko and Hantengu. Tanjiro and everyone must defend the village or see the whole Demon Corps fall.
Review:
If you have read my other Demon Slayer reviews, you know that I absolutely LOVE this series. I love the action, the storyline, the characters, and the animation, and I think it is one of the best anime series ever made. I have a high belief in this series. When season three came out, I was excited because season two, the Entertainment District, left my mouth on the ground with how epic the final fight scene was. That shit was over the top, and I couldn’t wait for this season to come out. After watching it, the season was still good, but it fell off a little bit, and I was a little disappointed.
The story was off with this one, as Inosuke and Zenitsu were missing from this season. They are the comic relief and sometimes the best parts of the whole anime. No matter, the story felt a little rushed. The season started off hard and with fear. It begins with Muzan summoning his remaining five Upper Rank demons, and dude is PISSED. He feels they are incompetent and admonishes all of them for their failures. The anime gets going when he sends Gyokko and Hantengu on a joint mission to cripple the Demon Slayer Corps.
Tanjiro and Nezuko are sent to the Swordsman village to have Tanjiro’s sword remade since he has a habit of breaking it. While in the Swordsman village, which is hidden from the world and must be blindfolded to get there, Tanjiro meets the Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji and Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito. Both Hashira are different in their own ways. What I like about the anime series is that it gets into each Hashira’s background. In this one, Mitsuri is someone who was to be married but she was outcasted because of her hair color and strength. Muichiro’s background is messed up. He had a twin brother, and they ran into a demon. You get the picture, and he seems to be stoic but also a major prodigy.
The battles and action were fierce and entertaining to watch. The story shows how valuable the words that Tanjiro preaches are and how they affect the ones around him. Tanjiro meets with Genya long after the first meeting and breaks his arm. Genya wants to be seen in his brother’s eyes, and they have problems. Tanjiro also gives words of advice to Muichiro. As they three battle, it goes all out but nothing like the Entertainment District. As I said, the ending was where it was at with the intensity. Tanjiro always goes hard in the pain, and there are times when I think he is going to die, but he pulls it out.
As stated, the main story is Muzan sending Gyokko and Hantengu to destroy the Swordsman village. Gyokko was freaky looking as he had most of his powers dealing with a pot. Dude would suck people into his jar and combine them or straight-up kill them. His background story was quick, but it could have been more memorable. He spent most of the series fighting against Muichiro while trying to make sure that the sword that Tanjiro found wasn’t made. Hantengu was the most annoying one but the Upper Four and had an interesting power where he split up his emotions. If the anime had focused squarely on him, it would’ve been decent because he could split himself into many different parts. His final form was far more interesting.
I will give a spoiler alert, but the two Upper Moons die. It was bound to happen after 100 years. I will say that the last three Upper Moons look like they are going to be a freaking problem. Even with some of their short time on the screen, it feels like everyone is about to die in future seasons. Kokushibo looks like he will be the hardest one to defeat as the Upper Moon #1. Hell, Doma, the Upper Moon #2, looks like he will be a terror but has a smile on his face while doing it. Everyone still has to compete with Muzan.
The ending will leave your mouth open and your mind blown. Watching the climax of this season is INTENSE as Tanjiro comes to a critical decision that will change his world forever. The passion, fear, and heartbreak that Tanjiro deals with in the final moments of his battle with Hantengu will keep you on the edge of your seat because Nezuko makes a decision for him. After it was all said and done, you will have tears in your eyes.
The animation is always the highlight of this anime. Goddamn, it’s so good that you cannot help but keep watching it. With each season, we see unique and fantastic animation when it comes to the different breathing styles. The Mist Breathing Style and the Love Breathing Style were fun to watch. The animation hit with a bang when Muzan called everyone to his fortress. That bad boy looks incredible.
This season of Demon Slayer was decent, but it didn’t hit the levels of season one or two. It progressed the story, and like with many long anime series, there is a season that falls off a little bit. I feel like this anime is about to pick up in the future seasons. The animation is still at the top of its game and will be so appealing to your eyes. The ending was phenomenal and will have you in tears. Hopefully, we can have the return of Inosuke and Zenitsu.
