You know what makes a great ghost story??? The plot, the twist, and the feeling you get that makes goosebumps on your skin, your hair standing up, and the ability to not get a good night’s sleep. Now I don’t really know if ghosts exist or now. Many pictures show a phantom in a photo or something that shouldn’t be there but is. All crazy stuff, but that is why the world needs Ghostbusters. When a person dies, where does their soul go actually? Do they become a ghost and live on Earth, watching our every move like in the movement? Do they go to Heaven or Hell? Who knows what happens on the other side. What if we have some unfished business? Besides all of that, what if we have some unfished business along with being in love, how would that work out? Ghost tries its best to show that love can overcome everything and finishing up the business we left on Earth.
So, what is Ghost about???? Ghost revolves around a very loving and happy couple that are so very much deeply in love. Sam Wheat (Swayze) is a bank executive who has moved in with his girlfriend and talented potter, Molly Jensen (Moore). At work, Sam discovers some discrepancies in a variety of accounts. Sam lets his best friend Carl Bruner (Goldwyn) know what he found who, in return, offers to investigate the matter, but Sam decides to investigate himself. While walking back to their apartment after a night out at the theater, they are jumped by a thief who pulls out a gun. After Molly gets the mess slapped out of her, Sam and the thief fight. Sam is shot and killed murdered. Sam soon realizes that his spirit remains on Earth and, after a few encounters with other ghosts, learns that his death was no accident. Sam believes that Molly is in danger but doesn’t know how to reach her as a ghost. He finds a supposed psychic by the name of Oda Mae Brown (Goldberg), who believes that she is fake but can hear every word that he says. With Sam finding his medium, he hopes to protect Molly from danger.
This movie isn’t as bad as I thought, but it isn’t great either. Plot-wise, it is okay. The whole not being able to move on because of unfinished business is okay. I was expecting a whole murder mystery, but in like the first 20 minutes, we know who orchestrated the murder and pretty much why. The entire movie is pretty much Sam trying to warn his living girlfriend and stop the people who killed him. There are plenty of other films that deal with life after death. Beetlejuice comes to mind, and it is pretty funny.
Some of the most infuriating parts of the movie are with Demi Moore’s character. Molly is such a thick-headed person. Things would’ve been twenty times easier if she had just LISTENED to Oda Mae. Actually, Oda Mae was quite loud, and I would be very skeptical of her, but when she starts saying things, only ONE person knows, maybe you should listen to the person. We can obviously see Sam giving information to Oda Mae and Molly, but what does Molly do?????? Run straight to the villain for support.
Now the best parts of the WHOLE movie are with Goldberg and her character. Goldberg was funny, entertaining, and a joy to watch. Goldberg did win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, and she deserved it. Now some of her best parts are after she finds outs she can speak to ghosts. She is sitting in her office, surrounded by a variety of other spirits. One possesses her, and the way she asks the woman about her hair is funny. Another scene is when Oda Mae goes with Sam to take the money that Carol needs. She is pure joy in that whole act, and then when she had to give the dough up to a couple of nuns, her reaction is priceless because we all had that reaction.
This movie does has this dancing scene that is supposed to be romantic and touching. We see Sam and Molly dancing with each other, but in reality, it is Molly and Oda Mae dancing with each other. I guess you can’t show two women dancing with each other.
Overall, Ghost is an okay movie. It is a movie that tries to be a mystery, along with being romantic. Goldberg is the best part of the whole film. She is very entertaining. Besides that, other movies are entertaining like Beetlejuice or Beetlejuice.
