Sometimes a movie doesn’t need to be remade, remake or even see the light of day again. Sometimes someone needs to look at people in charge and ask them why they even thought about making a movie that should be despicable in people’s minds. Yet, Hollywood seems to have zero morals. This time comes the remake of the 1978 film “I Spit on Your Grave.” In the original, a woman goes by herself on holiday. She gains the attention of several local men who then do the unspeakable of raping her one by one. The film then goes into how the woman gets her revenge on her rapist.
Fast forward to 2010, and the world has once again been presented with a remake of this film that ZERO people asked for. This awful film being with novelist Jennifer Hill (Butler) traveling from NYC to some parts of Louisiana to work on her next book in privacy. While in Louisiana, she meets gas attendant Johnny and his gang of creeps. As Jennifer sets in her secluded cabin by the lake, she starts getting an uncomfortable feeling. Soon Johnny and his crew break into the cabin and sexually assault Jennifer repeatedly, as one of Johnny’s friend’s records. Jennifer jumps off a bridge before being killed by the local sheriff. Thinking that she is dead, life moves on for the men until Jennifer returns with a vengeance taking her most needed revenge in her hands.
Okay, so the one thing this film does is spend considerable time on the verbal, psychological, and physical violence against the main character. Honestly, watching this should make all women pissed off because it almost gives men a license to be mean to them. The rape scene was way over the top and served no purpose, only showing that men are pathetic beasts who think they can talk anyway to women. The whole start of it was just blah. They torture her and make her do things that no woman should do for cheap laughs. I will say that the assault is far more than many people can take. I felt disgusted watching it, and I have seen some things.
The second half of the film is how Jennifer exacts her revenge on the despicable men who raped her. I felt nothing for the men and thought she absolutely deserved to get her revenge. Is it violent? Yes. Is it justifiable? Yes. Is it a crime that will get her locked up? Yes, but once again, if you going to rape a woman, you deserve to get your d**k cut off or have a shotgun stuck so far up your ass that it blows your brains out. I have zero problem having a woman get back at her rapist. Hell, with the way the law and court system is in the United States, a man could walk free with nothing happening. I can name several court cases like it. If she got pregnant good luck on that front.
There are many movies that I have seen that no one should watch, and this movie is one of them. I Spit on Your Grave is a film that no woman should view. Respect the women and don’t rape or be horrible to them. The vengeance is justifiable in my book. Honestly, this movie will make you sick to your stomach and is entirely AWFUL!
