Today’s entry comes from the 1941 drama film, How Green Was My Valley.
From the clip provided by 20th Century Fox, comes a slap where you better not hit other people’s kids in school cause you might get jacked up.
How Green Was My Valley is a story told by the main character Huw who talks about his life and family in the South Wales coalfields. Through Huw’s eyes, the family works as coal miners who one day go on strike. Huw shows how the loss of the way of life affected him and his family. In this film, Huw is beat savagely by his teacher Mr. Jonas. Dai Bando avenges Huw with an impromptu boxing display on Mr. Jonas and delivers the “Boxing Lesson” Slap.
After Dai Bando saw what Mr. Jonas did to Huw, he takes it upon himself to lay down the law. What is great about this slap is that for one, it was delivered twice but he also did it as a boxing lesson for the kids. Dai Bando’s hands were quick like a boxer’s should be and he had that upward backhand motion along with it. It was a thing of beauty. When you know the dude out, you get high praise.
