Today’s entry comes from the film noir, Mildred Pierce.
You don’t know how happy I am about this one because we get TWO slaps! From the clips provided by Warner Bros. comes two slaps where one you will applaud and the other make you shake you head in disappointment. I present to you the “I’m a Waitress” Slap and the “I’m Not Going to be Like You” Slap.
Mildred Pierce is a mystery that might leave any parent shaken. After discovering her second husband’s dead body, the police pick up Mildred and question her. During the interrogation, Mildred describes how she married young and raised two girls. After her first husband left, Mildred explains how she straight up hustled to provide for her children, especially Veda.
Slap #1: The “I’m a Waitress” Slap
This is a slap is one of those slaps where you have no response for. Mildred delivered this slap to Veda, and you have to applaud. You saw they hurt but anger in Mildred’s eyes as she listening to Veda. As Veda is going into her monologue, Mildred delivers two perfect back-to-back slaps. Her hands were like lightning as she shut up Veda. Message sent to Veda’s face and received.

Slap #2: The “I’m Not Going to be Like You” Slap
This is a disrespectful slap. When Veda hatches her plan to swindle $10k out of this family, Mildred isn’t having any of it. During an argument, Mildred rips up the check, but her face is met by Veda’s hand. I have to give it to Veda; she had enough power to drop her mom right on her ass. She had a nice follow through with her slap. Gotta give respect to the slap game.
