After humiliating Eli, he needs to buy one piece of land. The only way the person will sell his land is if Plainview gets a baptism and give money to the church. Eli extract his revenge with one of the strangest baptisms around to Plainview.
You can skip to around the 2:30 mark. This right here is the “Get Out Devil” Slap. Eli smacks the mess out of Plainview’s face. First, you hear the straight up contact. Plainview’s reaction says it all. One of surprised but also, “That’s the best you can do?” type of response. Now after that, Eli goes to town and a little overboard with his slaps. He wanted to make sure that he felt some of those slaps. Even did a rapid fire slap but if he wanted to really Plainview a lesson, should’ve gone with the backhand. Would’ve been way more effective.
