Today’s entry comes from the 1969 original western version film, True Grit

From the clip provided by Paramount Pictures comes a slap that while make you go “Oh Shit!” I present to you the “I’m Crossing That River” Slap.

True Grit is a film starring the legendary John Wayne as US Marshal Rooster who is hired by Mattie to capture the person who killed her father in cold blood. True Grit is know for classic lines like, “bold talk for a one-eyed fat man” and “Fill your hand, you son-of-a-bitch!”

Now there were two slaps in the film but this is the one I could find and let me tell you its just as good as the other one. Rooster and Le Boeuf tell the river man that Mattie is a criminal because they don’t want her tagging along. While on her horse, she looks at the river man and delivers a backhand with her hat in hand. One that made you go, “oh damn! He going to feel that in the morning.” Now what is great about this slap is  firth the set up. Mattie is looking down at her hat seemingly not engaged with the man. This sets the atmosphere that she isn’t a threat. Just like a true G, she slap the shit out of this man with perfection. In one quick motion, she brings her hand up to shoulder height and with gravity helping since she is on the horse, delivers an all-time great slap that made dude stumble backwards and hold his face. Damn this is an amazing slap.
