Bruce Lee was a legendary Hong Kong and American martial artist who changed the world and became an icon. Lee was not only an actor but also a martial arts instructor, actor, director, screenwriter, producer, and philosopher. Whether he was wearing his yellow outfit or the sounds he made when he fought, Lee changed all and did it big. His films inspired many video games today and influenced many to take up martial arts. Lee brought martial arts to the forefront and promoting Hong Kong action cinema. We honor you, Bruce Lee. Be like water.
Lee- Enter the Dragon (1973)
Enter the Dragon is widely praised as one of the greatest martial arts films of all time. It was Lee’s final completed film appearance before his death. If you ever played Mortal Kombat, the game is heavily influenced off of this film. Enter the Dragon is a film that brings the thrill of martial arts, coolness of Blaxploitation and story that is really good, while showing the athletic greatness and mastery of its star, Bruce Lee. In the film, Lee is persuaded to attend a high-profile martial arts tournament on Han’s private island. You will enjoy this film, no matter what.
Billy Lo- Game of Death (1978)
In his final film project, Lee died during the making of the film. Lee plays Billy Lo, a Hong Kong based movie actor, who is targeted by a syndicate who wants Billy and his girlfriend to going their management firms at any means necessary. This film had major cultural influences. The concept of ascending a tower while defeating enemies on each level has been a concept in major video games. Yet, the MAJOR influence comes from Lee’s iconic yellow-and-black jumpsuit as well as his fight scene with NBA player and student Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. That fight is crazy.
Tang Lung- The Way of the Dragon (1972)
The film where Bruce Lee fought Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris might have done a lot of internet meme, but Lee will always top that. In this film, Lee plays Tang Lung who arrives in Rome to help his cousins in the restaurant business. They are pressured to sell their property to a syndicate. The final fight between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris is considered one of the greatest fight scenes of all time. Also, they fight around the Colosseum which was strictly forbidden. When you pull a man’s chest hair and then fight, you know you will get a badass fight.
Kato- The Green Hornet: TV Series (1966)
In a series like Batman, The Green Hornet was a single season series about Britt Reid, the owner and publisher of the Daily Sentinel newspaper. He parades as the masked vigilante Green Hornet and fights crime with the assistance of his martial arts expert partner, Kato. As in the show, Kato does all the work with his martial arts ability.
Chen Zhen- Fist of Fury (1972)
Lee plays Chen Zhen, a student of Huo Yuanjia, a famous kung fu master. Chen discovers that his master was killed by the Japanese and rains down hellfire and brimstone on the ones with his mighty fist. The movie goes into issues surrounding Japanese colonialism. Also, Lee has a way of disguising himself before whipping ass and taking no names. Lee also did double duty by doing the fight choreography. How about that dojo scene? Lee went to town on everyone.
Cheng Chao-an- The Big Boss (1971)
The film that brought Lee to stardom. In the Big Boss, Lee plays Cheng Chao-an, a young man in the company of his uncle, travel to Pak Chong, Thailand to stay with his cousins and work at an ice factory. Cheng sees his cousins in trouble but tries not to intervene as he swore a promise to his mother to not get into any fights. When his two cousins go missing, Cheng must decide on whipping ass and taking names or keeping the promise to his dear ole mother. Even though the Big Boss was a success, it is one of the weaker versions of Lee’s famous films.
