With a career that spans more than 40 years, Jamie Lee Curtis in one of the OG Scream Queens. She first gained fame as the title character Laurie Strode in the Halloween series. Curtis skyrocketed and became a sex symbol with her roles in A Fish Called Wanda, Trading Places and other films. Curtis is versatile and a movie queen icon that should be respected and praised for her work.
Laurie Strode- Halloween series (1978-Present)
In the film that started it all for Jamie Lee Curtis. In a film series that has spanned decades, Jamie Lee Curtis seems like the only character to be able to go toe-to-toe with the legendary killer Michael Myers. At the start of the series, Curtis played Laurie as a scared teenager. Now, homegirl is a badass woman who has no problem shot gunning her brother.
Wanda Gershwitz- A Fish Called Wanda (1988)
In one of the funniest films around, Curtis plays Wanda, a con artist who double crosses everyone. Curtis is stunning and funny in this role as she matches wits and comedic lines with Kline. Curtis was such a delight playing the sexy thief who conned everyone. She definitely used her sex appeal and charm to seduce men. Now she was a freak for people who could speak different languages. She would get off and turned on so much when men spoke Italian and Russian.
Ophelia- Trading Places (1983)
Trading Places is another hilarious film and Curtis plays Ophelia; a prostitute who help the men get revenge. Curtis is stunning but hilarious as she tries to help Winthorpe. She is the voice of reason but also one who has the sex appeal. The train scene is priceless as you really get to see how funny and lovely Curtis is.
Helen Tasker- True Lies (1994)
Curtis is one that always showed off her beautiful figure and sex appeal. In James Cameron True Lies, Curtis managed to take it up a notch in a funny and delightful way. Playing the bored housewife who is looking for excitement, she begins an affair only for her CIA husband played by Arnold Schwarzenegger to find out and recruit her in a scheme. When Helen learns of Harry’s double life she is caught up in an adventure. Curtis was amazing in this role as she earned her seconds Golden Globe award.
Linda Drysdale- Knives Out (2019)
In one of the best murder mystery films in a long ass time, Curtis is part of an ensemble cast in this Agatha Christie type film. Curtis plays Linda Drysdale, Harlan’s eldest daughter and one of the ones who wants his vast fortune but also a suspect in his death. Curtis is excellent as she tries to navigate around her dysfunctional family.
Deirdre Beaubeirdra- Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Curtis is hilarious in this film as Deirdre Beaubeirdra. She is oh so sassy and doesn’t hold back anything as the IRS inspector. Another reason to hate the IRS. Curtis completely changed her look as she almost goes unrecognizable. Plus, this film is totally mind-bending in the film department but so enjoyable.
Tess Coleman/Anna Coleman- Freaky Friday (2003)
In this cult classic Disney film, Curtis and Lindsay Lohan star as a mother and daughter, whose bodies are switched by a mysterious and magical Chinese fortune cookie. Curtis is great playing the role as a daughter who ended up in her daughter’s body. You will definitely get some laughs in.
Shelly DeVoto- My Girl (1991)
I completely forgot that Curtis was in this film. I remember how sad the ending was over anything else. In this film, Curtis perfectly plays the beautiful Shelly DeVoto. Shelly is a divorcee who becomes the new makeup artist at the funeral parlor. During the film she develops a relationship with Harry and his preteen daughter Vada. This has got to be one of Curtis sweetest performances.
Elizabeth Solley- The Fog (1980)
Curtis reteams with John Carpenter in this horror film. This version is way better than the reboot and trash that cam out many years later. In this film, it is a vengeful ghost story where mariners who were killed in a shipwreck there 100 years before ravage a costal town. Curtis also costars with her mother in this film.
Hannah Miller- Anything but Love (1989-1992)
No lie, I used to watch this show at my grandparent’s place when they didn’t have cable. Curtis won her first ever Golden Globe for her recurring role of Hannah Miller. Starring opposite Richard Lewis, Curtis plays Hannah who returns to her hometown after quitting her teaching post out of state and breaking up with her long-term boyfriend. She tries to have a professional relationship with her coworker but cannot deny the romantic feelings.
