The talented, amazing and beautiful Julianne Moore is an actress that has had a wonderful career. With bright red hair and illuminating smile, what is not to love about Moore. Starting off in the early 1990s, Moore has made a career portraying emotionally troubled women in independent films and in blockbuster films. Moore has received numerous awards including an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and two Emmy Awards. Moore has done it all and continues to be one of the best and sought after actresses in the industry.

Dr. Alice Howland- Still Alice (2014)

Via: Sony Pictures CLassics

This movie was CARRIED by the performance of Julianne Moore. Moore really embodied Alice and displayed the stages of denial but also fear that her character went through. Moore showed Alice in disbelief at first because she was a professor and exercised regularly, and the thought of having this disease never crossed her mind. Moore’s performance went above and beyond because she showed and delivered the effects of this disease.

Maggie/Amber Waves- Boogie Nights (1997)

Via: New Line Cinema

Julianne Moore’s role as porn actress Amber Waves was very commendable. Moore seems so raw and genuine in her role as the mother figure of the entire group. As her personal life is crumbling, Moore makes Amber seem like nothing is wrong with always partying and doing her job. Yet deep inside, she is a very flawed person. Turning to drugs to hide the fact that she is going through a divorce and will lose her child. Moore shows Amber as the loving mother figure for everyone. Whether it is consoling Eddie or Roller girl. She displays the love of a mother splendidly while staying neutral in significant situations.

Laura Brown- The Hours (2002)

Via: Paramount Pictures

Julianne Moore as Laura Brown was meh to me, to be honest. She made her character seem clueless or have a mask on. She seemed happy but really was depressed. For the longest while, I thought she was an airhead; maybe that is why I wasn’t invested in this character. Maybe that is why her performance was unique because you didn’t have anything invested.

Cathy Whitaker- Far from Heaven (2002)

Via: Focus Features

Moore managed to nab a Best Actress nomination for her role as Cathy Whitaker. The film explores many themes as in race, gender roles, sexual orientation, and class in the context of 1950s America. The film reminded me of Imitation of Life and I straight up cried during the ending of that film. Moore is fantastic as she brings in so much class and beauty to a 1950s housewife living in the wealthy world of Connecticut. Her world soon falls apart around her.

Julian Taylor- Children of Men (2006)

Via: Universal Pictures

In this dystopian film where the world has gone to absolute shit. Set in 2027, human infertility has been going on for the past two decades and left society on the cliff of collapsing. The UK is one of the few remaining nations with a functioning government and a place where refugees flock to. Moore plays Julian, Theo’s estrange wife. Julian offers Theo money to acquire transit papers for a young refugee woman named Kee. Moore is strong and a force until the unthinkable in this gritty film.

Poppy Adams- Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)

Via: 20th Century Fox

I love when Moore plays a villain because she seems so kind but evil at the same time. In the sequel to Kingsman, Moore plays Poppy, leader of the world’s largest drug cartel, the Golden Circle. Moore has a strong presence as she controls her organization and will do anything to get what she wants. She even launched a volley of missiles that destroy the Kingsman headquarters and wipe out all its agents in Britain. Don’t mess with Poppy.

President Alma Coin- The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 1 & 2 (2014 & 2015)

Via: Lionsgate

Moore joined the Hunger Games cast as President Alma Coin, who is the leader of District 13. Moore had a subtle presence as Coin. She didn’t raise her voice and seemed like she was caring by wanting to stop the system. She seemed like she wanted to help Katniss but maybe was even more ruthless than Snow. She wanted power and to rule Panem. She ordered extreme bombings and would do anything to win.

Frannie Hughes/Sabrina Hughes- As the World Turns (1985-1988; 2010)

Via: CBS

We going back to the beginning with this one. Moore starred on As the World Turns. If you know anything about soaps, this is one of the best ones back in the day. It was fun to watch Moore at the beginning of her career.

Maude Lebowski- The Big Lebowski (1998)

Via: Gramercy Pictures

What a classic film from the Coen Brothers. Staring Jeff Bridges as Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski, a Los Angeles slacker and avid bowler. In a case of mistaken identities, the intended target millionaire Lebowski’s trophy wife is kidnapped, and millionaire Lebowski commissions The Dude to deliver the ransom to secure her release. Moore plays the Maude, an artist who paints nude while strapped to a flying harness. The film is absolutely crazy but fun to watch.

Dr. Sarah Harding- The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)

Via: Universal Pictures

A sleeper for most. This is the sequel to the ICONIC Jurassic Park. Moore plays Dr. Sarah Harding, Malcolm’s girlfriend and a behavioral paleontologist. The film is not the best for Moore because she does some idiotic things. Yet, it is Jurassic Park and I did enjoy this film back in the day.
