The one, the only, the queen Viola Davis is one of the best actresses in the world. In the past few years, Davis has become one of the best and stern faced actresses in the world. If you need a strong black woman who looks like she would whip your ass up and down the street, then call on Mrs. Davis. She looks like she plays no games and then tell everyone that she beat you. She is the sole African-American to achieve the Triple Crown of Acting. Davis is the newest member of the illustrious EGOT crew winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. Let’s praise this wonderful and beautiful actress.

Rose Maxson- Fences (2016)

Via: Paramount Pictures

Davis as Rose is powerful when she is on screen. She is quiet and submissive in her life but a loving wife and mother. The one thing that Davis did when Rose flipped out was bring out that oh so ugly cry. We have all seen the ugly cry. Tears running down your face, snot coming out of your nose, and you can hardly speak. The ugly cry is an effective award-winning technique. Bravo to Davis for winning the Academy Award for her role.

Annalise Keating- How to Get Away with Murder (2014–2020)

Via: ABC

Davis became the first black woman to win Emmy Award for Best Actress for her role as criminal defense attorney Annalise Keating. Davis played Annalise as a complex, high-profile criminal defense attorney and law professor. Davis is wonderful to watch in this role as she is very protective of her students. She is a straight up BOSS!

Amanda Waller- Suicide Squad (2016-Present)

Via: DC Studios

Amanda Waller screams power and respect in the DC comics. No other person portrays that best than Davis. As Waller, she is a ruthless, calculating government official who oversees the operations of the Suicide Squad and many other missions in the DC universe. I don’t think Davis smiled once throughout her tenure as Waller and it is amazing.

Aibileen Clark- The Help (2011)

Via: Walt Disney

Viola Davis as Aibileen Clark was sincere and heartwarming. A person that had to do her job but also found the courage to tell her story. She could’ve explained it more, but then I remember the time she lived in, and it was dangerous for what she did. Davis is an absolute pleasure to watch.

Nanisca- The Woman King (2022)

Via: Sony Pictures Releasing

Strong, black women. Davis plays General Nanisca, a general who trains the next generation of warriors to fight their enemies. Davis is strong and powerful. When I saw the trailer I was even more afraid of Davis. Watching her in this film, she can definitely take anyone out. Davis put in the time and effort to look strong, and powerful.

Tonya- King Hedley II (2001)

Via: Pittsburgh Public Theater

Even though Davis won a Tony in 2010 for Best Leading Actress in a Play for her portrayal in Fences, the same year she won the Academy Award, we have to give respect to her first Tony. Davis won Best Featured Actress in a Play for her role as Tonya in King Hedley II. Davis was superb in her role as King Hedley II’s wife. Davis is always masterful to watch and brings it all to her roles.

Ma Rainey- Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (2000)

Via: Netflix

Davis was grand as the American blues singer and influential early blues recording artist. Even though she didn’t do the singing, Davis knows how to tell a story and show her range. Also, Chadwick Boseman should’ve won the Academy Award. Davis keeps doing her thing and showing the world how talented she it.

Best Audio Book, Narration & Storytelling Recording- Finding Me (2023)

Via: Grammys

Davis on the Grammy for Best Audio Book, Narration & Storytelling Recording. This win welcomed the amazing, talented and queen to the status of EGOT. Finding Me is Davis’s story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. She sure did go far beyond because she is one of 18 to become and EGOT. Bow down to this queen!

Mrs. Miller- Doubt (2008)

Via: Miramax Films

This was the role where Davis obtained her first Academy Award nomination. Davis plays Donald Miller’s mother; a caring woman is at first seemed ambivalent but soon finds out the truth behind how she feels and the fear that she wont be able to protect her son.

Herself- Hot Ones (2022)

Via: First We Feast

I am going to change it up for this one and maybe in the future. The Hot Ones from First We Feast is a masterclass on acting. To talk while eating hot ass wings takes skills. Davis was no exception as she tried the wing test. I am not going to tell you how it is. You must watch!
