Disney has some incredible villains throughout their illustrious movie span. There are iconic ones such as Scar, Maleficent, Jafar and Ursula to name a few. I want to give you one of the most underrated ones in Disney history. I present to you the one and only Professor Ratigan from The Great Mouse Detective. Professor Ratigan is one of my favorite Disney villains of all time. A criminal mastermind who is based on Sherlock Holmes archnemesis James Moriarty. Professor Ratigan wants to rule all of Mousedom and put Basil of Baker Street far in the ground. Voiced by the LEGENDARY Vincent Price, Ratigan has his rightful place as one of the best Disney villains.
Ratigan has a fearsome villain for a rat. If I saw this rat walking though my kitchen, I’m straight up moving out and finding something else. Ratigan is a big-ass rat that towers over all his underlings and other mouses. Ratigan has grey fur but dresses in a black tuxedo with a long black cape with red underside. He also wears a high-collared white shirt with a pink-and-purple striped cravat and a vest. He usually wears a top hat while his hands are covered in white gloves with some bomb ass golden cufflinks and a gold cane. Dude knows how to dress. Ratigan looks like he has a five o’clock shadow. His eyes are yellow with light purple circles around them and super thick eyebrows. Even though Ratigan thinks he is a mouse, dude is a full-on rat. He has sharp fangs, long nails, a long nose and long pink tail. Dude is once again a rat. When Ratigan goes into a rage, his appearance goes straight to shit. He becomes what he hates the most and becomes a feral rat. He runs on all fours, and he gets rid of his fancy outfit. For some reason, his nails and teeth grow longer. Where are my rat traps?
As a Disney villain, Ratigan has many evil and diabolical qualities that make him such a great villain. Being based off Professor James Moriarity, Ratigan is by far one of the most intelligent Disney villains and a criminal mastermind. Ratigan is charismatic, manipulative, charming, and a straight up psychopath. One of Ratigan’s biggest qualities is his intelligence. He believes he is smarter than common rats and better. When it comes to Basil, he thinks he is far superior in intelligence but gives Basil his due as being a worthy adversary. When it comes to being in Ratigan’s crew, he is sadistic, cruel and has no issue insulting them and even killing think with the help of his big, fluffy, fat cat Felicia. Ratigan is completely obsessed with power. He will do anything to obtain power which brings his second love of riches. He evens kidnaps a toymaker just for the reason of replacing the Mouse Queen to become king. Even though he is universally cruel and sadistic, he is also narcissistic as he has his crew sing a song about him to celebrate his greatness.
Professor Ratigan is by far one of the best Disney villains ever. He is such an underrated character. When you have a song about yourself and explains why you are better than everyone else, you are a bad ass villain. Since he is narcissistic, psychopath and straight up loves being nasty, he is one of the vilest Disney villains ever. To Ratigan, the world’s greatest criminal mind!
