Not the damn gumdrop buttons!! It is rare that you have a cartoon villain that is not a Disney character. DreamWorks burst on the scene, and presented one that would give most Disney villains a run for their money. I am talking about the one and only Lord Maximus Farquaad or simply Lord Farquaad. Farquaad appears as the main villain in the iconic DreamWorks film, Shrek. This little man has major Napolean Complex and rules his lands hard. He wants the best of everything and if you don’t fit in, you are either killed (i.e. Mama Bear from Goldilocks and the Three Bears) or moved someplace else.

You would think that if you ever met Lord Farquaad, he is a tall man with deep, intense eyes, can whip anyone’s ass with a blade and supremely athletic. If you were thinking that you are far wrong. Lord Farquaad is the complete opposite of that. He is a short man. A really short man. I don’t know Napolean’s height, but he could be the same height or shorter. His height is the butt of many jokes. He has shoulder-length black hair that is in the shape of a bob. Farquaad dresses in some of the finest clothes. His main outfit is a red and white suit with a big-ass hat and black boots.

Lord Farquaad rules Duloc with an iron fist. His one and only dream is to become the official ruler of Duloc. This pushes him to extreme levels of absurdity. He is a ruthless individual that is also deceptive, egotistical, vain and narcissistic. He is oppressive of the people of Duloc but believes that Duloc is the perfect place to live. He goes as far as to throw out any fairy tale creature out of his kingdom to make sure it is perfect. He is insensitive and a perfectionist to a fault. Even though Farquaad is prideful, oppressive and a tyrant, he doesn’t see himself as a monster. He believes fairy tale creatures are monsters and that they are a poison to the world. When he first sees Fiona, he falls in love with her. Once he finds out she is an ogre, he berates her on her appearance. He didn’t care about her personality and was completely going on appearance. Stated earlier, Farquaad has a Napolean Complex where he compensates for everything. He builds a towering castle to make him feel good about himself.

Lord Farquaad is a dick, and he is quite evil to the fairy tale creatures. One prime example is with the Gingerbread Man. When he pulled off his legs to interrogate the cookie, he made no qualms of berating him. When you say, “Run, run as fast as you can. You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man,” you are pretty sadistic. He threw Gingy in the trash once he was done with him. Farquaad will not do anything for himself that will put him in danger. When he learns that whoever saves Fiona will break her curse, rather than doing it himself, he holds a tournament. He knows that many will die and doesn’t even care about who dies to achieve the goal.

Lord Farquaad is one of the best and iconic DreamWorks animated villains of all time. This little man has a huge ego for his height. A man who wants his own kingdom and will do anything to have it and make sure it is perfect. He is ruthless, tyrannical and narcissistic in more ways that his little body can handle. If you are a gingerbread man, you better watch because your legs will be dipped in milk and ripped off.
