What is Willy’s Wonderland about? Good questions. It’s about a quiet drifter (Cage) whose name is never revealed, blows a tire on his nice ass ride somehow runs over a spike strip. The drifter finds himself stranded in remote Hayesville, Nevada. Seemingly out of nowhere but coincidently, mechanic Jed Love is driving down the road and offers to tow him back to his shop to see the damage. After giving the price for the damage, Jed states he only takes cash, but his ATM is out of order. To find funds, Jed takes the drifter to Willy’s Wonderland, a once-successful abandoned family entertainment center. The drifter meets owner Tex Macadoo who offers him a job to work as a night-shift janitor in exchange for repairing his vehicle. The drifter agrees to the terms and is handed a t-shirt. Ted and Jed lock the drifter inside until the following day. As the drifter begins his cleaning duties, he will soon find himself in an all-out fight with the restaurant’s now-withered eight animatronic mascots: Willy Weasel, Arty Alligator, Cammy Chameleon, Ozzie Ostrich, Tito Turtle, Knighty Knight, Gus Gorilla, and Siren Sara. Will the drifter survive the night or perish with the restaurant’s dark secret?

Now, most people might be disappointed if they were expecting the concept of the actual game to come to life as a movie, and it doesn’t. Like I said before, the film has the idea of the game, but besides that, it goes off on its rails. We learn that the animatronics have that Chucky vibe to it as the animatronics are possessed by the spirits of these cult-like killers. They opened up the restaurant and started killing people. Before they were captured, they did some satanic ritual and transferred their souls to the animatronics. They continued their reign of terror only for the town to sacrifice people by having them blow out a tire and clean for the night. Once again, the premise is insane. Also, there is a teenager Liv Hawthorne who wants to straight-up burn down the place for a side story. She is handcuffed by her protector, who is the sheriff. Long story short, she and her friends end up in the building only to be killed by the creatures. Watching them get killed is funny, strange to watch, and entertaining, I must say.

I highly doubt you will be afraid at all. You might jump when one of those freaky animatronics jumps out of nowhere, but that it is. Besides that, it is straight-up watching Nicolas Cage clean, drink some energy drinks while playing pinball on his breaks, and then beating the absolutes**t out of the deadly creatures. When I mean he beats the s**t out of them, he does. He straight up curb-stomped one of them on a urinal. I want to say that this movie is insane, but it’s a fun watch because you know it’s going to be absolutely crazy. This is a Nicolas Cage movie we’re talking about. If it wasn’t crazy or strange, you might think something is very wrong.

Speaking of Nicolas Cage, the dude didn’t say one entire word in this whole movie. He let his facial expressions do all the talking for him. Whether it was his slowly pulling down his glasses to look at the restaurant’s sign or watching someone getting stabbed and having one of the most unimpressed looks on his face, the dude didn’t say anything. Yet, he was great in this role because he just seemed so cool and out of place. Did he have his wild and crazy scenes? Yes, for example, when Liv was about to be attacked, he was all game to help her, but then his watch goes off, signifying that it was his break time. He hands her the knife and then peace out and goes back to the breakroom where he looks like he is having one of the most epic pinball games ever.

Overall, Willy’s Wonderland is just a crazy movie that combines Five Nights at Freddy’s with a bit of Chucky involved. Yet, it is an entertaining movie where we get to see Nicolas Cage battle against killer animatronics. In a film that Nicolas Cage says absolutely nothing, you will have a decent time watching this film. Strap and see if you can survive.
