Here we go again. I want to say that 2017 was a freakin hard year for me to pick what I think were the top 10 films. My list originally started off with a list of 36 films. To dwindle that down all the way down to ten was a pain in the ass. There were great superhero films, dramas, comedies, fighting, adventure, horror movies and many other films that were excellent. Damn you 2017 for being such a great year in film. Also, damn you Disney and Marvel for dominating the year and having great films. Once again, these are my favorite films, and they are in no particular order.
Logan

One of the best superhero films around. Hugh Jackman’s “last” turn as the famous hero Wolverine was one of his best. The film is amazing as it is gritty, violent but has a story that must be watched. Logan is an old man as the X-Men had fallen. Professor Xavier telepathic abilities have become unstable due to age. He seems to have Alzheimer’s. The film explores many themes and watching Jackman give his all to this great film needs to be applauded. He was the best at what he did and what he did wasn’t very nice.
Dunkirk

You know I love a Christopher Nolan film. Besides Steven Spielberg, Nolan ranks as my 1B of favorite directors. I love the stories that Nolan presents and how it messes with your mind a little bit. Nolan decided to make a film about the evacuation of Dunkirk during World War II. I believe you need to pay attention to the concept of time as the three main characters are at different time lengths throughout the film. One reason this film great as it has little dialogue but also, you never see any Nazi soldiers. The intensity is great. Once again, love me a Christopher Nolan film.
Wonder Woman

Don’t care what anyone has to say, Wonder Woman deserves to be on my list, and she made it cool to be a woman superhero. Played by the beautiful Gal Gadot, Patty Jenkins showed and excelled that being the greatest woman superhero is for everyone. Forget those other DCEU films and watch this one instead. Set during World War I, Diana sets off to try and stop the longtime enemy of the Amazons and Greek God of War, Ares. This film is AWESOME, and everyone should watch it.
Coco

Pixar has come through once again with an all-time great film. Pixar knows how to make great films that represent different cultures. Coco will make you cry at the end, but it follows a young boy named Miguel who is transported to the Land of the Dead who tries to get help from a deceased musician to have music not banned anymore. The movie is great and should be watched repeatedly. Love a great Pixar film and once again, you will sing and cry during this film.
Thor: Ragnarok

It is very rare that the third film of a film franchise is the best. Thor: Ragnarök is by far one of the best films in the MCU along with being the best Thor movie. In this film, Thor must battle against his sister, Hela, played by the amazing and beautiful Cate Blanchett along with saving his home from Ragnarök. The film is hilarious as Thor battles against the Hulk because he is a friend from work, and we get to see the best MCU character ever and his name is Korg. In the words of Korg, “Hey man.”
Get Out

Bravo, Jordan Peele!!! Peele, wrote, co-produced and directed this awesome, amazing and fantastic film that won him the Oscar for Best Screenplay. The crazy part was this was Peele first film he had ever directed. It’s crazy to watch as I was used to the Key and Peele show. The plot is crazy where a young black man uncovers crazy secrets when he meets his white girlfriend’s family. Peele came in like a force and is called the new Hitchcock. The themes that are explored in this film are spot on and need to be discussed.
Logan Lucky

Lucky Logan is one of those surprise movies that you will truly enjoy. You might think it is some country NASCAR movie but it is actually a heist movie that has a great story and amazing cast. The film is entertaining and will make you laugh more than once. I like the Ocean movies by Soderbergh but this film is on that level with them and a tad bit better. Tatum, Driver and Craig are all hilarious in this film. You will not be disappointed in watching this movie.
War for the Planet of the Apes

The third film in most trilogies doesn’t live up to the original and really falls off. War for the Planet of the Apes not only surpasses the first and second movies but is honestly how a franchise should wrap up a film series. Andy Serkis is amazing as Caesar. The film takes place two years after the second film where humans and apes are in a full-on war. Humans are slowly reverting to mindless creatures while the apes are getting smarter by the day. This film has a little bit of the story of Moses, but it is excellent. Watch this film and see how the apes rule the planet.
John Wick: Chapter 2

The John Wick series is great. The sequel is just as good as the first film. Keanu Reeves is made for this role as he is still on his mission to get revenge for killing his dog, but this time is forced back to fulfill a blood oath. There is plenty of guns, violence and bullets flying around. I’m sad they stopped at four films because I believe this series could’ve gone on like the Fast and Furious franchise. This series is better and the story is amazing.
I Am Not Your Negro

I have the great pleasure of adding this film to the list. Once again, this is my list, and I can put any film that I want on it. James Baldwin was a man before his time and the film explores the history of racism in the US through the one and only James Baldwin. The great Samuel L. Jackson is the narrator and don’t let him drop an F-bomb on you. The film is a must watch. Watch it to educate yourself about US history.
