I have been reading the Dune books and loved the Denis Villeneuve adaptation of the books. Villeneuve is a visionary genius, and he waited until Dune: Part Two to introduce Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen. You thought the Baron was evil in the first movie. He doesn’t even hold a candle or come close to the ruthlessness of his nephew Feyd-Rautha. All the praise needs to be given to Austin Butler who created an unforgettable monster in the short screen time he had. Butler made sure that the world would never forget this sadistic and evil character.
Feyd-Rautha is a fearsome looking man. His appearance is downright sinister. He has a pale-ass complexion that almost makes him look like a ghost. His skin is smooth as silk, and he is devoid of hair. The dude is bald along with having no facial hair and eyebrows. This enhances his cold and bloodthirsty look. Feyd-Rautha’s facial features are more pronounced as he has a sculpted jawline and high cheekbones. Feyd-Rautha’s eyes are terrifying and menacing. They are piercing and he seems to have a constant gaze of intensity and calculating nature. It looks as if his eyes have a constant look of bloodlust. Even though he is not a physically imposing person, this dude right here is muscular, lean and athletic. He seems to be an outlier as other figures in the Harkonnen family are grotesque.
Feyd-Rautha is a freakin nutjob. This dude is crazy and insane on many levels. He was adopted into the Great House of Harkonnen by Vladimir Harkonnen and raised by the cruel man. Being raised by the Baron, turned Feyd-Rautha into a charismatic but sociopathic leader and heir. Raised in an environment of violence, rage, manipulation, brutality and survival at the hands of his uncle, Feyd-Rautha became a product of his environment. He became cunning and manipulative looking for the opportunity to replace his uncle. He wants power and doesn’t care who he has to kill to get what he wants. He seems to lack empathy for others. This is shown when he is about to fight. You can see that the others fear him, and he slits the throat of a servant without batting an eye and caring more for the weight of the knife. Feyd-Rautha believes that fear and oppression are the only ways to keep people in line but everyone is beneath him as he is the only way forward. Domination over all is his way of life.
Feyd-Rautha is one of the deadliest and craziest villains to come around in this new era of villains. Butler deserved all the praise as hie brought a new side to this villain. When he first appeared on screen, you knew that a new evil was coming for Paul and the throne of Dune. Stay out of this villain’s way or meet the end of his blade.
