The Fairy Godmother in Shrek has the appearance of a loving grandmother. She is definitely beautiful for her older appearance as she has grey hair that looks like it is in the shape of an ice-cream swirl with sparkles in it. Her face is a little age with slight wrinkles but her blue eyes sit behind a pair of blue reading glasses. She usually wears a long light blue dress with purple star earrings and cute little slippers. On her back are a pair of wings that sound like a hummingbird. With any fairy godmother, she carries a wand that helps her grant wishes.
You would think that the Fairy Godmother would be a sweet woman that would bake you cookies. This Fairy Godmother is far from the benevolent one we read in the stories. This Fairy Godmother is a bitch. She is manipulative, conniving, prejudice and a businesswoman who only cares about making sure things stay on her plan and for her son. If she could, she would blackmail you in an instant and threaten you without even thinking about it. She did it to King Harold and Shreck. She lost her ways by forcing people to fall in love. Being a powerful Fairy Godmother, she has no regrets about using her powers against you. She uses her position as Fairy Godmother to manipulate and deceive people. She loves playing mind games with Shrek by saying ogres don’t have happy endings. The only great quality about her personality is that she loves her son Price Charming.
What makes the Fairy Godmother such a fearsome villain is her fearsome and “lovable” personality but also her wicked or magical power and abilities. Being a magical being, The Fairy Godmother uses her powers and abilities to get what she wants and plans. Her main magical ability is Spell Casting and Potion Making. Homegirl has a freakin factory just for her potion making. Along with her two basic her magical abilities expand to her having teleportation, projection, lightning casting, telekinesis, flight and cloth manipulation. You always need a way to change outfits with a swipe of the wand. The Fairy Godmother uses these wonderful abilities to make sure everyone stays in line and does not question her. She uses her abilities to rule with an iron fist. She changed King Harold from a frog to a human. She uses this information to make sure he never questions her. She makes sure everything goes to her plan and doesn’t mind turning people into pigeons, bubbles or having them put under a spell.
This Fairy Godmother isn’t the one you have read in your children’s book. The Fairy Godmother from the Shrek movie is downright mean, nasty and manipulative. She will do anything for her son Prince Charming and use any means necessary to make sure her plans for all in the kingdom are accomplished. I would rather have the Blue Fairy as my Fairy Godmother. On second thought, I’m good at not having a Fairy Godmother.
