In a world filled with monsters, demons, knights, princesses, and other worldly things, Al Wayne lives the simple life. Al Wayne has one goal and one goal only. Al wants to become the best farmer he can be. He spends every waking moment thinking about farming. He thinks about the soil, the best place, and the love he needs to give to make all his vegetables grow. Al spends so much time farming that he maxes out his farming skills and earns the unheard-of title of a first-rate cultivator. With this new status, Al becomes a BEAST, gaining massive stat upgrades that put him on par with legendary heroes.

Al’s life changes when he kills a dragon with a carrot. This catches the attention of the royal family, who enlist his help against a rising number of enemies who seemed to have become active when Al’s powers awakened. Even though Al doesn’t want anything to do with the kingdom, royal family, or monsters, he does want to protect what is dearest to him. His fields. Al will do anything to protect his fields.

To start off, I found this anime on a clip from Instagram. I watched an entire anime series before realizing it wasn’t the one I’d seen on Instagram. I was wondering where the character who killed a dragon with a carrot was. Yup, killing a dragon with a carrot. When I finally Google it, I found it and thought this anime was way better than the other farming anime series. This anime was funny and entertaining, but the characters were all over the place.

The story revolves around Al Wayne, who maxes out his farming skills and becomes the strongest person in all the kingdom. Through the series, we see Al in different situations. With each situation, it progresses the story and is not a standalone episode. In the first episode, Al helps the Princess, who quickly falls for him after saving her life, but also fights with one of the king’s loyal servants, who turns out to be a general in the demon army. Al, with his incredible strength, whips dude’s ass with a punch or two. The second and third episodes see Al go up against Ouroboros, who power dwarfs everyone and feeds off pain and misery. In the US, dude would be a god. Yet, Al still manages to defeat it.

As the story progresses, we see more of the characters who help Al be the best farmer in the kingdom. The last couple of episodes get a little dark and reveal Al’s past. We see that the dude was in love and cared about Ilvia, an orphan with whom he grew up and took care of. One day, Al and his best friend go out and get stuck in a cave when a volcano erupts. The volcano’s ash destroys the land. The survivors ration off food, and Ilvia starts giving her food to Al, starves from malnutrition, and dies. This is why Al goes H.A.M. with farming and wants to provide the best vegetables and produce ever. In the last two episodes, we get a revelation about why Al is so strong, and someone from the past returns. This sets up a second season, but I don’t think it will be made.

Besides the seriousness of the final few episodes, this anime is more of a comedy, and it does a good job of making you crack a smile or laugh. When Al threw that carrot and killed the dragon, it was hilarious because the dragon literally exploded in the sky. Another example of comedy is that Al is a powerful person, but he always seems to have trouble with ogres. He is chased through the woods by them and somehow always ends up running into a female one. Most of the comedy comes from Al’s love of farming and his vegetables. Dude goes insane for his vegetables. Also, his parents are hilarious, especially his mom, who goes insane for her little boy. She even whips up on his dad if anything happens to Al. A mother’s love is always great to see.

The animation is crisp and appealing to the eye, but it is not out of this world. I swear, Demon Slayer and some of these other major anime series have spoiled me. I had no issues with the animation in this series. I love how many of the characters were drawn, but I also love the effects some of the villains had when they used their powers. For example, Ouroboros was drawn with a black/purplish mist-like effect around him to show despair and darkness. One of the good goddesses has an angelic effect drawn around her, showing she is good and loving. Some scenes stand out way more than others with how they are drawn and draw you into the anime.

Many anime series like this one have quite a few characters. Some memorable characters and the stars, while others are pretty meh. This one luckily has both. For the stars, Al Wayne is a great main character. He is a farmer who gains the blessing of Growth Promotion. This allows him to master skills fast, which helps him receive the Grace of the Earth’s ability. This skill has his power level around 73612 (i.e. killing a dragon with a carrot). Al is a fun character who always wants to help and has a smile on his face. His female counterpart in the story is Fal-Ys Meigis, who is the First Princess of the Royal Capital of Mages. She is a headstrong princess who manipulates Al into working for the royal family in a good way. She has one of the best incognito disguises because no one in the kingdom seems to know who she is.

I’ve Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills is a great beginner anime series. It is funny and entertaining, with a quick 12 episodes. It is fun to see an anime where the main character is a farmer and becomes the most powerful person in the kingdom. Yet his one and only goal is to tend his crops and grow the best vegetables ever. This is a fun anime to watch and a good source of tips for becoming a farmer.
