Movies That Make You Go Huh #35

Here we go again for some pretty bad movies that will entertain you but also make you scratch your head in confusion. This time around, I tried to find some bad movies that deal with the military or have a soldier in them. I think this time I found a pretty good list for you. Have fun with these films as I have a fighter pilot, boots on the ground soldiers and maybe a ship.

Iron Eagle (1986)

Via: Tri-Star Pictures & Nelvana Limited

Top Gun or Iron Eagle. The world went with Top Gun. I mean, you really can’t go against Kenny Loggins and the Danger Zone. Top Gun and Tom Cruise made fighter pilots look cool. Iron Eagle, on the other hand, made you wonder why they are even trying. This was a rip off and not even worth the time to watch this film. Louis Gosset Jr., I’ll give you credit for appearing in three other sequels. That is commitment. You can skip this film or let it crash in the ocean because it is not worth it.

Solo (1996)

Via: Sony Pictures

I remember when Solo starring Mario Van Peebles came out. I watched it with my dad and thought it was cool as Peebles plays an android like the Terminator designed by the military to roll up in a Latin American war and kill everyone. He does this until he is attacked, and the villagers change his programing. As I’ve gotten older, this film is bad. It was all action with no character development and a story that was meh. Might as well go solo on other things and missions.

Soldier (1998)

Via: Warner Bros

What will happen if you take orphaned infants and train them to be ruthless military fighting machines who have no emotions? You get Soldier starring Kurt Russel. Another film I thought was cool growing up. Having a soldier getting old and replaced only to be thrown out on a world of trash with poisonous green snakes. The film is all over the place with Russel only speaking 104 words. That is honestly a word per minute in this film.

Basic (2003)

Via: Sony Pictures Releasing

If you are looking for a decent to bad military crime thriller, then look no further than Basic. It has a pretty good cast with John Travolta, Connie Nielsen and Samuel L. Jackson. The story follows a DEA agent trying to solve a mystery of a training exercise that has gone terribly wrong. The story could have been really good if it wasn’t for all the damn twists. Once the movie hit the halfway point, it was twist after twist and finally you will lose interest because you don’t have the slightest idea of what is going on, who to believe and why you should care. You would have a better time watching a magic show.

Gods and Generals (2003)

Via: Warner Bros

One of my favorite military movies is the 1993 film Gettysburg. The first time I watched that film was in 8th grade history class. Media mogul, Ted Turner, Mr. TBS, TNT and CNN decided to finance Gods and Generals. This film follows the famous Confederate General, Stonewall Jackson from his time in the Civil War. First, this movie is LONG. It’s almost 4 hours long. Stephen Lang is the only good part. This film should’ve been a tv series. This film does glorify the Confederacy.
