Welcome back to the trashy movies on the wonderful platform Tubi! Tubi is amazing at finding some of the bottom-of-the-barrel films that are filled with some wild storylines, shitty dialogue, and loads of sex and nudity. If you are looking for softcore porn or women running around in the nude, then Tubi is the place to go. Tubi is honestly the gift that keeps on giving with these types of movies, and they also drop some banger blockbuster films, but that is another story.
While scouring the depths of Tubi and looking for some crazy movies, I landed upon Night of the Dead Sorority Babes. Based on the name, you know there was going to be some major nudity and ditzy dialogue in this film. Honestly, this film had great potential and wasn’t as bad as it could have been. If it were made by a big studio and had some better writing, it would be a decent film. Let’s get into this wonderful review.
Night of the Dead Sorority Babes was directed by Steve Hermann and Angel Nichole Bradford. The story revolves around the mysterious Gamma Rho Kappa. The sorority has sent out recruitment invitations to a group of diverse coeds: Veronica, an highly sexual and inspiring writer (Jessa Flux); Victoria, the airhead (Ashleigh Amberlynn); Bambi, an inspiring lawyer (Mel Heflin); Lucy, the mean goth girl (Kelsey Livengood); Blair, the shy and innocent girl (Angel Nichole Bradford); and Megan aka the certified bitch and do everything possible person of the group (Anna Clary). Overseeing the girls’ initiation are head girl, Roxy (Mia Katz), who has a thing for some of the girls, and the head “faculty” Kimberly (Lynn Lowry) and her sister Angelica (Ann Myrna)
The first half of the film is the standard getting-to-know-the-girls-and-their-motivations. You start liking some and hating others. Some are complete bitches while others seem like sweet innocent people. Roxy is a bitch, and she commands with an iron fist. She starts the initiation by having the girls take off their tops. Nudity, here we come!! The first forty minutes are Roxy yelling at the girls to do stuff like drink a whole bottle of alcohol or something sexual in nature. Some of the girls are down with sex and really want to sleep with each other. There are a few bananas who are loving the action.
The film picks up when Kimberly and Angelica roll up and berate Roxy. You wonder what is up with them as they seem to have other things in mind until it is finally revealed that they are witches. Yep, you need a good witch in the film with sorority sisters. They use the sorority to consume the life force or blood of their victims to stay young. The cast spells on each sister to kill them in a brutal way. One girl is killed in the kitchen. Another is killed while writing some fantasy. It’s all over the place.
I would say I would be disappointed by the split personality of this film, but with the title Night of the Dead Sorority Babes, I should’ve known it was going to be a film that shows boobs and death. Even though the film failed, the story was pretty good in my eyes. Yes, it has the sense of some 80s or 90s horror films about sorority vibes, but the story had some quality to it. Yes, as a male, I was there for the sex and boobs, but I was impressed with the witches’ part and how they did their spells. It made it far more interesting. Even though it took a while to get there, I wasn’t hating on the film’s sexual vibe
The film’s horror aspect was decent. It wasn’t terrible, but it was somewhere in the middle with these types of film production costs. I found it interesting and exciting that it revolved around witches who had formed a sorority to kill and stay immortal. Love how they blackmailed one of them into staying and doing their bidding. The way each girl met their end was entertaining. That is one of the highlights of this film. You can always enjoy a few fingers cut off, a tongue removed, or an evil spirit seeking revenge. All the makings of a horror film that can go either way, with being bad or good.
As for the performances, each person did their job. Hey, I give all of them credit for showing off their amazing bodies. No body shaming here. Some of the performers were BEAUTIFUL. Even I hit the “GAWD DAMN!” Some of the performers excelled and overshadowed a few others. All the performers were assholes when they needed to, or being overly sexual, shy, and it’s not a bad gig to show up and show off your amazing body. I hope many of these actresses keep it up because they showed a little something in their performance.
Night of the Dead Sorority Babes is an okay film that has bitchiness and horror. If you want to add it to the long line of horror slasher sorority films, it does belong. The plot is slow at first, but it picks up halfway through. The horror aspect of this film helps it along, but it still feels like a meh watch. The performers hold up their end of the bargain in this film. If you are looking for beautiful women who show up in nudity, this is one for you. Thank you, Tubi, for all the movies that you have.
