“Mr. Anderson.” The main villain of the Matrix series is the one and only Agent Smith. Agent Smith is a computer program that you really don’t want to mess with or see in the Matrix. If Agent Smith is after you, you better run as fast as you can the other way. Smith is the leader of the Agents who becomes free and becomes an extremely dangerous and all-powerful computer virus that almost wipes out the Matrix. Agent Smith was created along with the other Agents to protect the Matrix. As the archenemy of Neo, Smith has little time for any program and watches over it with extreme prejudice. Give Hugo Weaving all the praise in the world because he has a way of making all his characters iconic.
Agent Smith is an intimidating figure. Dude looks like a Secret Service. His appearance reflects his role as a cold and calculated program of the Matrix that makes sure shit stays in line. Agent Smith wears a black business suit with a crisp white dress, black tie and black dress shoes. Agent Smith’s suit is perfectly neat in every way and makes him look like a machine. One of Agent Smith distinct look is his black sunglasses. The sunglasses are part of his agent’s uniform and show the detachment agents have from the real world.
Agent Smith personality is that of a machine. Initially, he appears polite, professional and serving the purpose of the system. His mannerism is calculated but cold and straight to the point. Behind this appearance, Agent Smith is resentful and self-serving. When interrogating Morpheus, Agent Smith goes into a rant about how humanity is nothing but a shitty virus that only reproduces and destroys its environment. Agent Smith believes that the Matrix is just like humanity and needs cleansing. As an agent, he shows a disconnect with the program by removing his sunglasses and earpieces when speaking with Morpheus. Agent Smith is also more cunning than his fellow agents. When pursuing Neo, he manages to change his route and lead Neo to a place he can shoot him. When Agent Smith becomes an Exile free of the system, dude goes on a complete world domination quest. His hatred of Neo seemed to skyrocket. As an exile, Agent Smith seemed to lose all purpose and believes all life should simply end.
As an agent, Agent Smith has all the standard abilities that are programmed for him. He has super strength, superhuman speed and matrix manipulation. When he is freed, dude gains more powers such as replication by making copies of himself of everyone that can enter the Matrix. He also gains the power of weather alteration, flight and clairvoyant.
Agent Smith is one of the best villains to appear in a long time. As an agent of the Matrix, dude is like a shark. He makes sure there is extreme order in the Matrix and has no problems eliminating anything. Even with being an agent, Smith wants to be free and when he does, goes on a power-hungry world domination tour. If you see a dude in black shades and black suit while looking menacing, you better run because Agent Smith is after you.
